In Blackstock the New Year was ushered in in wonderful style thanks to the insight and great efforts of Fred Ford andhis committee of Aileen Vancamp and Joan Graham and helpers. The children's part of the cele- brations began with the Torch Run down the main street and the lighting of the Great Fire. Family Skating and Sleigh Rides with the Golin's Clydes were very popular. The children's evening concluded with refreshments and fireworks. The adult dance was a sellout and also very successful. Congratulations Fred! The Snowflake Curling Bonspiel on Tuesday, December 28 was successful with much fine curling and lots of fellowship. The winning team was Mike and Lois Marks, Alex Walcer and Leanne Goslin. Second place was Grant and Laura Micklewright, David Vernest and Jan VanCamp while third was taken by Paul Vaneyk, Tena Jenkins, Tracey Quibell and Dave Oak. Gerald Kelly Our thanks to Fred Ford and his committee for putting on a great party won the gift basket kindly donated by Elizabeth Pecters. Katherine and John Devins of Iroquois Falls attended the funeral of their aunt, Freda Meek of Sandford and visited . her mother Kathleen Watts. On Thursday, Dec. 23, Kathleen Watts hosted a pre-Christmas Taylor family gathering. Attending were Kathy and John Devins, Anson Taylor, Scarborough, Joyce Taylor and Danielle, Betty Jane and Kirsten Short of Blackstock, Carolyn and Gordon Redican, Peter and Stephen of Lindsay. Last Tuesday Wednesday many from this area attended visitation in Markham and the funeral in Stouffville of Murray Grove. Sympathy is extended to Marion, Steve and Deanna and family, Glen and Joan and their family as well as to the many other family mem- bers. Poor weather created a small crowd at the Euchre with the following winners-Lois Huntington, Harold Crawford, Lorraine Geer, Don Geer. Lucky draws were won by Elaine Bailey, Richard Potter and Lyle McMahon. The monthly pot luck supper and Blackstock by is on Jaunary 4 at 6:00 p.m. with all welcome. Over 400 including many from this area attended a ser- vice of celebration of the Millennium at the Scugog Community Centre on Sunday evening. All the Scugog church- es were involved in some way in the very impressive service. Almost $1700. was received in the offering which will be sent to the new hospital chaplaincy programe at Port Perry/Uxbridge Hospitals. Many have been suffering the horrible flu this past few weeks. Better health is wished for Peter lloogeveen and Neil Werry who spent some time in hospital. New Year's day dinner guests of Gerald, Joyce and Elaine Kelly were Jim and Ella Walker, Audrey Gilmour all of Lindsay, Ernie and Victoria Hargrave, Woodville, Blair White, Whitevale, Peter and Elizabeth Peeters, Courtney, Kathryn and Graham of Omemee, Francis Peeters and Esther Kelly of Palgrave, Ralph and Peggy Larmer, Cecil and Marie Gibson of Blackstock. The Mountjoy Family held "their annual New Year's day gathering at the Recreation Centre with a large number in attendance, Much visiting and great food was enjoyed. George, Brenda and Chris Bryant enjoyed having their family home for much of the 'holidays. St. John's News by Colin Beal The first Eucharist of the year 2000 A.D. and, thus, of the 3rd Millennium of Christianity was Blackstock ushered in the New Year with style celebrated, at St. John's, on "New Year's Day. The congrega- tion was not large but everyone was very much enthused about the service and the occasion. There was much comment on the fascinating world-wide tele- vision coverage of Millennium celebrations and there were also expressions of relief that much-hyped fears of computer chaos and the end of the world had proved groundless. Sunday evening's Ecumenical Millennium Church Service was well attended, though the attendance by per- sons from "out of town" church- es was probably less than had been expected because of the very unpleasant weather. St. John's was well represented by Father Hugh who delivered the first of the three homilies, all quite short! There was lots of singing and it was certainly a worth-while evening. Following the service, refreshments were served and there was lots of mingling and fellowship. On Friday evening, January 7th, St. John's Choir will enter- tain the residents of Port Perry Villa and the Community Nursing Home. The Caesarea Christian Fellowship meetings resume this Wednesday, January 5th at 7 p.m. They have a very good turn out to these meetings, so come out and join in and enjoy a good atmosphere. An Ecumenical Celebration of the 'Millennium will be held at Uxbridge Baptist Church on Sunday, January 9th: at 6:00 p.m. The U.C.W. Presbyterial Day Apart will be held on Monday, January 10th at 9:30 a.m. in Stouffville United Church. Epsom-Utica U.C.W. will meet on Tuesday, January 11th in Epsom Church starting at 1:00 p.m. All ladies of the community are welcome to attend. Utica Hall Board will hold it's regular meeting on Tuesday, January | 1th at 8:00 p.m. in the Hall. Epsom-Utica Collective Kitchen (The Cooking Thing) is having a Millennium Project in conjunction with Uxbridge Community Care. The Simmonds family enjoyed their Christmas celebration on Monday last. A visit to the arena for skating and hockey was part of their day. The Floyd Evans family gathered at the home of Cathy Ashenhurst, Evan and Jeffery on Monday. Ruth and Elmer Wilson spent Christmas Day with Doug and Beth Wilson and Virginia, Keith and Floyd Wilson and families made their visits during the week. .
