SIU spokesperson Gail Scala said last week that investigators looking into the Dec. 20 incident are close to wrapping up their probe. "The investigation is currently ongoing, and right now we are waiting on some forensic reports," she said Thursday, a day after an update on the progress of the investiga- tion was given to SIU offi- cials. "Right now they are in the final stages of their investigation; the forensic reports are the only thing they need to wrap up the investigation before it goes to the director (Peter Tinsley)," said Ms Scala. "He will then make a deci- sion on the investigation." SIU investigators were called to the intersection of Hwy. 12 and 48 near Beaverton around | a.m. on Dec. 20 after Warren Frank Mclvor, 45, was shot three times -- once in the stomach and twice in the upper arm -- by Durham Regional Police Const. A 50-kilometre pursuit ensued from there, end- ing at the intersection after the suspect's car ran over a spike belt near Beaverton. While it is unclear what happened after that, three shots were fired through the passenger side of the front wind- shield, striking Mr. Mclvor. Const. Williams was designated as a subject officer in the shooting, while four other Durham officers and one OPP offi- cer have been named as witness officers. Two Mnjikaning First Nations Reserve police officers from Rama have been asked to provide statements as well. While recovering in hospital from his wounds, Mr. Mclvor was charged in connection with the inci- dent. He faces one count each of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. Sale ends February 29, 2000. gk : a -------------- a a mi Spectacular crash totals car CHRIS HALL/PORT PERRY STAR Emergency crews responded to a serious accident on Reach Rd. near the Scugog/Uxbridge Animal Shelter yesterday afternoon when the driver of a Chev Monte Carlo lost control of his vehicle, slid into a ditch and crashed into a tree, landing upside down. A passenger was quickly removed but Scugog firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, who sustained serious injuries.
