Mark McPherson chance to "iron a few things out," and "have a good talk" with the players in preparation for Game 3 on Thursday night (Feb. 24) at the Scugog Arena at 8:30 p.m. It goes without saying that this is a "must-win" game for the MoJacks if they hope to climb back into the series. In Game | Friday night, the MoJacks enjoyed a solid 40 minutes as the game was deadlocked at one each with Adam Jones netting the Port Perry goal with help from Shane Norton. Sean Cronsberry replied for the Ice and he scored what proved to be the winner in the third on the power play. Nick Harper added some late insurance for the 3-1 victory. But oh what a different story Sunday night as the Ice took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Justin Murray and Marsh McCullough. Early in the second, the MoJacks looked like they might make a game of it as Ryan Whitney swept a shot behind Mike Capone off a pass from behind the cage by Bill Beaulieu. And they were able to get some pressure on the Ice net but could not finish off the play. Time and again a decent scoring chance would be turned aside at the last moment with the puck bouncing harmlessly to a corner or off a defender's pads, away from the And, as usually happens in games like these, the Ice went up 3-1 late in the frame with Cronsberry somehow squeezing a puck behind Jeff Mackie from a terribly sharp angle as a couple of players slid into the crease. The back-breaker came with 40 seconds left in the middle period when Trevor Sedore fired a slap- shot from the slot to make it 4-1 with MoJacks serving a double minor at the time. The Ice added a couple more in the final frame with Beaulieu reply- ing for the MoJacks, but there was no sign of life in the home team as they appeared to just want to get through this bad dream. "It's not so much the fact we lost this game, it's the way we lost it," said coach Thornbury. "They (the players) know that I'm upset and they themselves will be upset at the way they played." But ever the optimist that his team will bounce back, Thornbury noted that the MoJacks have had success this past season on the road against the Ice and Game 3 is on home ice here in Port Perry. "We're just down two games and it's a best-of-seven series," he said. SLAPSHOTS: The MoJacks were without four defensemen in Sunday's game. Mike Heasman sustained a leg injury Friday night and his status for the rest of the sat out the last game of a four game suspension and he'll be back Thursday night. Matt Glen was out with an injury, but could be ready for Thursday and captain Jeff Clarke (out of town with his work) is expected back for the next action. Thornbury noted that these guys bring a large measure of toughness to the MoJacks and were badly missed. Clarke, team captain and an all-star this season is one of the best two-way rear-guards in the league. "He brings a whole differ- ent dimension to the game. He can put the fear of God in guys," was the way Thornbury described his captain's style of hockey. "Hopefully, he'll be back for Thursday." In the other series, Lakefield leads Uxbridge 2-0 in games with wins of 2-1 and 4-2. Game 4 in the Mojack-Ice set goes Friday night in Georgina at 7:30 p.m. with Game 5 at the Scugog Arena Saturday at 8 p.m. if neces- sary. After Sunday's loss to the Ice, the MoJacks had lost six straight playoff outings. They have not won a post-season game in the last five. seasons after three times missing the playoffs and being swept four straight three years ago by Little Britain. Fans of the MoJacks hope that dismal string comes to a very quick conclusion on Thursday night. Partington, Mike Ayres and Jody Peters. Dave Dickson rounded off the scoring with an empty net goal assisted by Brad Menzies.
