THE PORT PERRY STAR ISLAND DANCE STUDIO Dance, fitness on the agenda at Island studio Since opening th Island Dance Studio on September 17, 1999, the centre for artistic devel- opment has been flour- ishing well, offering classes in ballet/pointe, jazz, modern and moving well (stretch and strength). The students range in age from 2-1/2 to adult. The dance studio is owned and operated by Richelle Kinley Van Dyk, who holds a teaching cer- tificate from the National Ballet School and has completed the Teacher Training course in Cecchetti ballet. Other faculty s-mem- bers are Carey Nicholson and Sharon Geigl. The combined backgrounds of all three teachers include training at Ryerson University, the National Ballet School, Toronto Dance Theatre and George Brown College. In the recent Reader's Choice survey, Richelle was voted as the best fit- ness instructor while her studio was named the Lest dance studio. Richelle is grateful to all the wonderful parents and students who have supported her and vol- unteered their time to make the annual recital another success. "We had a full theatre dance production and it all was made possible by volun- teers", she says. Mary Parulski made the majority of the cos- tumes while Paul Roberts, Perry Dale and Richelle's husband, Marten, were the stage crew. And throughout the year Jude Tunbridge and Janice Gilpin were an irreplaceable support system who made things run smoothly, Richelle says. But the one person who has forever been a pillar of strength, and always been there to lend emotional support is Richelle's mother, Joan Kinley. "Mom is always there to give good, sound advice," she says. Since the Island Dance Studio's inception it has grown dramatically and this fall will be hold- ing classes in two loca- tions in Port Perry - the original venue, Scugog Island Community Hall, and now also at the Prince Albert Community Centre. For more information on the Island Dance Studio and its programs Richelle can be contact- ed at 905-985-6908. When you have an individual, family or business portrait taken you have an enjoyable lasting memory. Gone are the days of dressing in prim and proper attire. The look in the new millennium is casual. Something that is becoming more popular are family portraits that include the family pet(s). Various backdrops can be chosen in the studio or the photography session can be done in the privacy of your own home. "It's. your portrait. We create lasting memories at whichever location you choose," Andrew says. All portraits can be taken either in colour or black and white although half the portrait work is now in the latter choice. The studio offers a variety of photography services, included a full range of framing and gift collections to enhance the presentation of the finished portraits. On your wedding day, let Water Street Studio capture those treasured moments. But, be sure to book early; don't leave this important detail to the last minute. As well, the popular studio does dance and theatre photography and has already been chosen to take this year's soccer team pictures. Earlier this year the studio did the pictures of the special needs hockey club. This spring the Water Street Studio, in conjunction with the Port Perry Star, held its first annual baby contest.
