On Sunday morning members of the Scugog Fire Department joined with the congregation of the Victory Christian Centre for a moving trib- ute to emergency workers lost in the Sept. 11 terror- ist attacks on New York and Washington, as well as thanks to local firefight- ers for their public service to the community of Scugog. District Chief Dave Ballingall was moved to tears as he recited a poem written to commemorate the firefighters lost at the World Trade Center and first read at the International Extrication Competition in which Scugog firefighters ranked first among Canadian teams and third in the world among those coun- tries represented. According to police sources, a search warrant was executed on a Fralick's Beach Rd. resi- dence as a result of a theft investigation. Officers of the North Durham Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) seized about $175,000 worth of items as part of the investiga- tion. Property seized included two boats and four large horsepower outboard motors as well as two snowmobiles and various snowmobile parts. One of the boats and its motor has been con- firmed reported stolen from York Region. Michael McCourt was in custody on an unrelat- ed matter. Thieves grab $100 worth of coins from laundromat Durham Regional Police report that on Monday (Oct.8) thieves entered a coin laundromat at 1894 Scugog St. where they forced open coin boxes and escaped with at least $100. Police ~say the coin boxes were pried open by the bandits. There are no suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
