McClelland Port Perry Star The Port Perry MoJacks continue to hold second place in the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League by splitting a pair of games over the Remembrance Day weekend. After going down to defeat 4-2 Friday night to the league-leading Uxbridge Bruins, the MoJacks returned to the more friendly atmosphere of the Scugog Arena 48 hours later to clip the Little Britain Merchants by a 5-2 margin. The two points they earned Sunday night with a solid defensive performance and some sharp net- minding by Matt Balser gives the Mojacks 19 points (15 games), three ahead of Lakefield and four up on the Georgina Ice. And they now trail first-place Uxbridge by six points. This battle for second place could change again by mid-week as the Lakefield Chiefs were in Bobcaygeon Monday and will host the Ice on Tuesday evening. Playing in front of another good-sized crowd "at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks opened a 1-0 first- period lead on a marker from Dane Grey at 8:55 with Ryan McQuade and Justin Bennett drawing the assists. It was a bit of a sluggish first frame as both teams appeared to be somewhat on their heels. The pace quickened considerably in the middle stanza, however, and the MoJacks got the lone goal with McQuade pulling the trigger on a set-up by Nathan Cotter. But a couple of veterans for the Merchants went to work in the third and tied the affair before the period was half over. Jeremy Farr broke Balser's bid for a second con- secutive shutout over the Merchants when he scored at 6:42. Jon Perrin drew the assist. And, less than two minutes later, the game was deadlocked at twos on a goal by Perrin with Farr setting him up. The MoJack's Ryan McQuade proved why his name is always near the top of the scoring parade in the Central League when he got what proved to be the game winner just past the || minute mark. Killing a penalty, McQuade stripped the puck from a Britain defenseman, moved in alone and calmly fired a perfect shot just under the cross bar that beat netminder Jared Ruston cleanly. But the MoJacks were not content to rest on a one-goal margin. Shawn Curran got them some valuable insurance at 13:20 off a pass from Andrew Mercer, and Matt Harris rounded out the scoring at Turn to Page 21 Lil PIZZA, SUBS o &WINGS 0 Whatiar Si, [Port [Pen 905-985-8448 20 piece pizza with 1 item 1b. wings & garlic bread pA dg Nelo] CH or_ Bridge 14 piece pizza with 1 item 11D. wings & garlic bread WE DELIVER TO THESE AREAS = Port Perry, Blackstock, Nestleton, Caesarea, Seagrave, Greenbank, Utica, Epsom, Scugog Island.
