"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 18, 2001 - 1 | It'll be held Friday This Friday (Dec. 21) from 7:30to 10:30 p.m. a video dance for youths up to the age of 15 will be held at the Scugog Community Centre. Any profits from the video dance will be for- warded along to help with the construction of a second ice pad for Scugog Township. Just in case you have never seen a video dance, it features the accompanying video of a song playing along on a nine-foot by 12-foot screen and also includes a light show and special effects. - A similar dance will be held on Jan. 4. Organizers are giving | away $500 in prizes, the grand prize being a lim- ousine ride to and from | the Jan. 4 dance for up to : six people. Video dance party to raise funds for second ice pad There will also be a lot of gift certificates from local businesses given out at the dance, which perhaps could give local youths a chance to finish up their Christmas shopping. Because it is a fundraiser and because video dance equipment is so expensive, there will be a $10 donation for youths from between the ages of 8 and 15; those under eight will be asked for a $5 donation. This is a supervised event and we want par- ents to know that they are welcome to attend at no charge. The more adults present, the bet- ter supervision we will have. Scugog Works Director Larry Postill, who chaired the meeting, said he felt it had been a positive meeting with many questions being answered. Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce, who attended the meeting, felt the jurisdiction on the lake was confusing and suggested they needed to find out the responsibilities of the Trent- Severn Authority. She said she would like to invite someone from the Trent- Severn to a council meeting to explain their role within the provincial man- date. Mr. Postill informed council that although Trent-Severn had been informed of last week's meeting, he had received no response. "It was disappointing they didn't attend the meeting," he said. THANKS, BUT NO THANKS In other Scugog Council business, a letter from the Port Perry Business Improvement Area requesting Scugog Township consider sponsoring horse and carriage rides in the downtown during the Christmas season brought smiles to the faces of a number of councillors. Sybil Ades, treasurer of the BIA, informed council they could sponsor the rides at a cost of $350 or co-spon- sor them for $175 on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Council felt the BIA should look beyond the tax base and asked staff to advise them as to the township's poli- cy regarding grants. : the hustle and bustle of the holidays, into a timeless world of enjoyment.
