Caesarea News By Albert Putsey Lion's Club elections on Dec. 20 One look at the calendar tells us that Santa will soon be packing up ready to make that special ride south. It also tells us that our short- est day, Dec. 21 is getting close. After that, we start to get roughly two more minutes of daylight each day. We won't notice it by the day, but more so by the fortnight. We keep hearing about the warm- ing effects in our temperature. Recently, it's been ten degrees above normal. Now let's look at last year. The snow came the first week of November and lasted all winter, with no January thaw to talk about. This year our first snow fell December 14. At this point | think we can just sit down and meditate. Blackstock & District Lions Club At our .dinner meeting last Wednesday we had as our guest speaker Lioness Billie Kemp, accom- panied by her husband, Lion Doug Kemp from Bowmanville, speaking on S.C.AW., Sleeping Children Around the World. This organization, started by Margaret and Murray Dryden, par- ents of goaltender Ken Dryden, dis- tributes bedkits to underprivileged children around the world. When organizations or individuals donate bedkits, photos are taken of the children with their bedkits and sent to the donors. These donations may be given in honour of a birthday, an anniversary, or a special person. One hundred percent of the monies raised buys bedkits; all staff are volunteers who work out of the Dryden home. The Lions were quite impressed with the slide show presentation. This is your last chance to buy Lions cheese gift boxes for Christmas Contact Lion Bruce at 905/986-4034 before they run out. This Thursday, Dec. 20 the Leo Club will hold their elections for their, Board of Directors at 7 p.m. in the hall at St. John's Church. All who are interested in becom- ing charter members of the new Cartwright Leo Club will be in atten- dance and exercise their right to vote. In the new year a charter night will be planned. Caesarea Fellowship (Our local church) The church is now completed far enough to open its doors to the pub- lic for the first time in many years on Christmas Eve. We are looking forward to an old- fashioned evening of carol singing and msic. The doors will be open at 5:30 p.m., with the program running from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by fellowship and refreshments. Please - plan to attend and enjoy the evening. Seasons greetings to all. Another little ship on the sea of life. Joke of the Week At my grandfather's 72 birthday party, his sister proposed a toast: "May you be just like our Grandpa Johnson," she said, referring to my great, great grandfather who lived to the age of 96. My little brother luoked up from his dinner in horror and sputtered, "But he's dead!"
