Durham Police arrested and charged the young man around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 6 after he drove through the 'intersection of Mill and Toronto Streets in Uxbridge, knocking over a stop sign and running across a residential lawn. Officers were called to the scene, where they conducted a patrol of the area and located a white Chev Cavalier at the intersection of Brock and Main Streets. The vehicle bore signs of dam- age, police say. Danger. Thin Ice The vehicle was pulled over by the officers, and an exchange of words occurred. The officers noticed the usual signs of impairment on the young man, according to a report. The Stouffville man was arrested for failing to remain at the accident scene, and was taken to the 26 Division station in Port Perry where he was given a breath test. He blew over the legal blood-alcohol limit, police said. The man has been charged with one count of failing to remain at an accident scene, one count of exceeding 0.08, and one count of driving contrary to the con- ditions of a license. Thieves steal gear from building site Thieves targeted a con- struction site at the Canterbury Common Estates in Port Perry last weekend, stealing almost $6,000 in materials. Between 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 7 and 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 10, police say thieves struction site and stole a jacuzzi tub valued at $1,800, a number of Colonial-style doors worth $2,000, and some pine trim estimated at $2,000. In another incident, police report that a 1998 Polaris ATV was stolen from a Regional Rd. 39 address last weekend after thieves managed to gain entry into a garage through an unlocked door.
