PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" Festival time Organizers gearing up for annual Sunderland bash Vendors and contes- tants are being sought to join in the fun at the fifth annual Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival on April | and 2. Talent Show There's no business like show business and you will have your chance to strut your stuff onstage at the second annual talent contest. It will be held from Il am. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 2. The organizers are seeking children and adults to fill categories ranging from singing to dancing to playing instru- ments. There is an entry fee of $5 for solos and $10 per group. Some exciting prizes are being donated for this event. Applications can be picked up and dropped off with fees at Pilgrim's Home Hardware: or Flindalls Freshmart in Sunderland by March 17 or e-mail to Karen Doble@hotmail.com. Save your appetite for the pancake eating contest being sponsored by Sunderland Deli and Catering at 10:30 a.m. The deli will prepare mouthwatering pancakes drizzled with real maple syrup from local sugar bushes. The top prize will be a picnic for two catered by the Sunderland Deli. You can pick up your applications at the deli for this delicious event. Art and Craft Show There are still a few spots available in the pop-- ular art and craft show at Sunderland Public School, which runs from 10 am. to 4 p.m. on April 1 and 2. Other Attractions As well as the sugar bush and dairy farm tours, downtown Sunderland will be alive with all day enter- tainment, all day pan- cakes, clowns, a quilt show, a midway, bed races, a heritage exhibit and other exciting attrac- tions all weekend long. Special guests Jungle Cat World are booked in for two shows on April | at 11 "a.m. and 2 p.m. featuring animals such as a red tailed hawk, a baby cougar and a python. Come out and meet the SMSF Y2K ambassador actor Neil Crone and co- ambassador Karen Doble and author of "Maple Moon" and other books Connie B. Crook. The work of Millbrook's Grace Glass and Linda Zernask of Little Britain Nervy thieves grab cash from gas bar till Thieves stole approximately $200 from a gas bar till earlier this week while an attendant had his back turned. Three people entered the Pioneer gas bar shortly before 9 a.m. on Jan. 31 and asked to use the phone, police say. When they left, it was discovered that $200 was missing from the till. The suspects are described as one white male, one black male, and one white female. They drove off in a red Chrysler vehicle, say police.
