PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2000 - § Some changes planned for this year's event Fair plans under way now The Sunderland Agricultural Society is now plan- ning its 149th edition of the Sunderland Fair. Last month's annual meeting nearly packed the downstairs of the Sunderland Town Hall. After the elections, Wilfrid's Dorothy Shier returned for her sec- ond term as President, Clare Thompson from Sunderland is the first Vice President. The elected Treasurer is Carol St. John from Sunderland and the Secretary is Cathy Hamill from Manilla. Special guests included Barry Van Camp, District-4 Director from Blackstock noting the "one with the dairy goat display at the Sunderland Fair wearing the sparkly vest was me". Another guest was Brock's Mayor Keith Shier who said the "Sunderland Fair is still a very important part of our heritage, 150 years (next year) is a long, long time to run in a Township continually." He added that the Sunderland Fair has four members of the current Brock Council as members of the Sunderland Agricultural Society. President Dorothy Shier held a vote and it was decided the Theme for the 149th edition of the Fall Fair is "Canadian and Proud of It". Among the highlights of the 2000 Fair are having the return of an agriculture favourite, a poultry show. This show is still in its fledgling stages at this time so any- one interested in getting more information or in spon- soring a class is asked to call Tracey Rose at 705-432- 8618. Another major change this year is having a new mid- way, this year it will be Funland operated by john Robertson, whose Grandfather operated a midway at Sunderland many years ago. This midway is noted for its friendly, family appear- ance with benches and trees plus quality family rides for everyone to enjoy. : The Sunderland Fair has an indoor stage that is call- ing local performers. To date, father and daughter musical team, Richard and Laura Macintyre of Wilfrid will be performing in the afternoon. The dancers from H.W Knight school will be return- ing to the stage this year.
