PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, MARCH 3, 2000 - 15 Don't put your shovels away yet, this weather's just a tease By Diane Cooke Seagrave News Hope everyone has been enjoying the lovely spring-like weather. I'm sure its just a tease so | wouldn't put that snow shovel away just yet. Cubs from the Ist Seagrave Cub Pack held a Winter Camp Feb. 18 to 20. They arrived at the Seagrave Church Friday night, set up tents, played games and watched a video. Saturday morning they made Tip-ups to be used on their ice fishing trip and learned a song about an egg sucking dog. Saturday afternoon they spent cooking hot dogs and ice fishing on Lake Simcoe. Saturday night they watched another video and had a campfire where they sang songs, performed skits and listened to ghost sto- ries. Sunday morning they went on a short hike through Seagrave, broke camp attended a Thinking Day Church service with local Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Beavers. Special thanks to parent volunteers, Bonnie Thomson, Chris Elliott, Jane Brosseau, Tracy and Frank Lew, Judy Rutledge, Debbie Harris, Dave Pentland and of course pack leader "Akela" Ed Johansen who organized the entire weekend. I am looking to start up a Seagrave Ladies Euchre Club. Anyone interested, please call me at 985-3722. Thanks. Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Allan Wray, Bill Huestis, Dylan Thomas, Frank Branton and any others celebrating their special day. Sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Valerie Kellar and her son Scott and his wife Lisa and their family on the death of Valerie's father Mr. Clifford Collver of Simcoe, Ont. on Feb. 14. They attended the service in Simcoe on Feb. 17. Congratulations to three Seagrave hockey players: Stephanie Blair, Matthew MacDonald and Logan Evans who, along with their teammates on the Mariposa Major Tykes team, won the B champi- onship at the Mariposa Hockey Tournament this past weekend. Good luck to all our local athletes who are busy with tournaments (hockey and ringette) and playoff games. A reminder to Durham Steam coaches, moms and dads to let us know of any team results and achievements for the column.
