FRIDAY, MAY 26, 2000 Men's chorus coming to church By Heather McCrae Port Perry Star The voices of more than 85 men will resound throughout Port Perry United Church on Sunday (May 28) when the Tri-City Gospel Chorus presents its gospel singing in bar- bershop style. All vocal selections are of the Barbershop Society - unaccompanied and in four-part harmony. The performers are "men of all ages, who come performed in the tradition from all walks of life. 1. Norm Millar of Port Perry has been singing with the Tri-City Gospel Chorus for three years now. Singing has been a good part of Mr. Millar's life for many years. Several years ago Mr. Millar started singing with the Markham Men of Harmony. Three years ago he also hooked up with the Tri- City Gospel Chorus. "Many of us are already barbershoppers or sing in church choirs," he said. There's no charge for admittance Sunday, just a freewill offering which sees the proceeds going to the church. Some of the more pop- ular songs the Tri-City Chorus will be singing dur- ing the 90-minute concert are Something Beautiful, Daddy Sang Bass and Ev'ry Time | Feel The Spirit. Farm Winery Ltd. "It's four-part harmony in gospel music, very inspirational." Although the Tri-City Chorus performs for free, it does raise money for the Ontario Barbershoppers' charity, Harmonize For Speech, which supports children with speech impedi- ments. Since 1975 the chorus has raised more than $15,000 for the cause. Tapes are available for S10 after the performance.
