Police and fire crews were dispatched to Simcoe Rd. near Clements Rd. north of Port Perry at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday. The male occupant in a south- bound 1990 Plymouth Sundance veered off Simcoe into the ditch. Police say the vehicle continued to travel almost a kilometre, taking down mailboxes and crashing over driveway culverts. According to Const. Heather Schafer of 26 Division, the car eventual- ly came to rest against a wire fence. The Traffic Management Unit was on scene to inves- tigate the accident. The man was found to be without vital signs, and a doctor at the scene saw signs that the 62-year-old may have suffered a heart attack. Dead is Paul Chomniak of Lindsay. While a heart attack is strongly suspect- ed of causing the strange crash, police will await the outcome of an autopsy before officially assigning any possible cause for the accident.
