Q) The Benefits of Full-Service Investing With fluctuating interest rates and a growing selection of investment vehicles, making wise personal investment decisions is more important than ever. Every year, thou- sands of investors choose to seek sound investment advice to help them achieve their goals. They require advice based on thorough research and an in-depth understand- ing of both the economy and their individual financial cir- cumstances. When investigating the vari- ous financial; companies, many investors are not clear as to how full-service investment dealers differ from self-service or discount dealers. The two main distinctions are that full- service investment dealers provide you with investment advice, economic research, and recommendations specif- ic to your personal circum- stances. They also assist you in designing and following a personalized life-long invest- ment strategy. Clients benefit from the expertise of their full-service investment advisor and their access to other knowledge- able financial experts through that relationship. Many impor- tant services provided by your investment advisor may include: independent market research and economic analy- sis, retirement and estate planning, insight on tax con- siderations, and asset alloca- tion. Self-service companies, on the other hand, can give you general information about their firms' products, but typi- cally not investment advice. Full-service investors benefit from their increased invest- ment flexibility. ~ Working together. with their investment advisors, clients are advised and guided through the investment process. As market conditions and personal cir- cumstances change your finan- cial advisor will keep you informed of the: possible impact on your" investments and recommend timely adjustments to your portfolio. If you have the time and incli- nation to research and analyze economic and market informa- tion, you may prefer to use a discount dealer, which will require you to independently manage your own invest- ments. Professional advice will help you avoid many errors that investors often make on their own, such as waiting for the best time to invest and never investing, or choosing invest- ments not suited to individual goals or time horizons. The experience and expertise of a full-service dealer will also help you avoid reacting to SC UG0G FINANC IAL SE 147 (03 ON AYO MINIMUMAMOUNTS MAY APPLY e Annual Rates» . short-term events rather than long-term trends, or using fees and sales charges as the major determining factors in invest- ment decisions. Successful investing, and par- ticularly retirement planning, is a long-term process. Full- service investment dealers will help you define your investment goals, whether they be saving to buy a new home, to put a child through university or college, or to plan for a comfortable retire- ment lifestyle. Your financial advisor has the time, experi- ence and skill to design a com- plete investment program tai- lored to meet your unique cir- cumstances and goals. Self- service or discount dealers do not have the same primary focus on individual and long: term planning strategies. In" fact, with a discount dealer, you probably won't even speak with the same person each time you call. When you choose an invest- ment advisor, think of it as if you were hiring an accountant or attorney - you are building a long-term relationship with a professional who offers cus- tomized services to meet your needs now and in the future. As you move through the vari- ous stages of your life, your full-service investment advi- sor will be there to help you work toward your investment goals.
