Corie s face The rm of the Township of Scugog Public Works Department PUBLIC NOTICE Please be reminded that the Highway Traffic Act prohibits the parking of vehicles on any roadway in a manner that interferes with the clearing of snow from that roadway. It also grants the authority for the removal of such vehicles, at owner's expense. A separate clause of this act prohibits the depositing of snow or ice on a public roadway. The Corporation of the Township of Scugog by-law 87-90 provides for the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks within the Township. The landowner whose property abuts the sidewalk is responsible for the removal of snow and ice within twelve hours after the fall of such precipitation has ceased. Failure to do so could result in the Public Works Department performing the serv- ice, and adding the costs involved to the municipal portion of the property tax bill. As well, said property owner shall be subject to a fine from the By-law Enforcement Department, in the amount of $50.00 for each offence. Thank Jou for your. continued cooperation regarding winter maintenance in the Township of Scugog. By working together, we will attempt to provide the safest winter environment possible for all residents. il Carson, CRS. - 8. Cartwright Fields supporters make case for grant money By Chris Hall Weekend Star Work on the Cartwright Fields sports and recreation complex has already begun, it has the complete support of the community, and the township has already thrown their support behind the project. That's part of the pitch councillors heard Monday afternoon when dele- gates from the group seeking their endorsement for a SuperBuild grant application appeared before council. The municipality has already shown support for the project, purchasing land near the Nestleton Hall. Project plans call for two ball dia- monds, tennis courts and a soccer field to be constructed for community use. A walking trail, playground area and expanded parking are to be added at a later date. The cost of the project has been set at roughly $1.1 million. To date, the township has kicked in almost $200,000 already. Volunteers have held numer- ous fundraisers as well "Council has supported us since day one," said project chair Wilma Wotten. "You've given us support and finances, and we've proven that there's a need for those facilities there." : She estimated that more than $243,000 has been raised through coun- cil, community donations and fundrais- ing and grants. Numerous volunteers have been involved with the project, added Mrs. Wotten. Cartwright Fields volunteer Colin Kemp noted that the group raised $50,000 last year, and has high hopes of collecting twice that amount in 2001 through donations, more fundraisers and applications to grant programs such as the Trillium Foundation. While supportive of Cartwright Fields, Scugog Mayor Doug Moffatt warned the delegates not to get used to council continually handing cash over to them. "Don't run away with the idea that you got the first $50,000 and that anoth- er $50,000 and $100,000 and $200,000 is coming," said the mayor. "We are responsible to the entire township, and - we have to make sure there is a facility available to residents in all four corners of the township." Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Peace, who also chairs Scugog's finance committee, supported the initiative. "This is a wonderful project. It looks like you've put so much h thought into it," she said. But she said the group would be bet- ter able to raise funds through dona- tions than by waiting for council to assist them. "After seeing the books, there's noth- ing left in the parks reserve fund... its gone," she said. Council later agreed to look into let- ting the Cartwright Fields group sell a lot they own if they dedicate proceeds to their effort.
