FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 2001 - 25 510 Taunton Rd. E., (at Wilson) Oshawa (905) 571-5420 ¢ (905) 571-K1A-0 They wrapped up round-robin play with two wins Compton Tykes set their sites EB on final series vs Mariposa The Compton Cable Tri-County Tykes finished their round robin playoffs with two victories this past weekend over Fenelon Falls and Manvers. In Fenelon, the boys skated to a 6-1 vic- tory. Brody Anderson continued his tena- cious play and was all over the ice either checking or deking out the opposition. Brody ended up with two goals both com- ing off breakaways. On the first goal, Brody tucked it in between the goalie's legs before crashing into the net. The second goal came when he did his patented .inside-outside move on the defence and then went in all alone before sliding it in the corner. Jonathan Brouse got Port's first goal when he stole the puck at the blue line and then went low corner on the break- away. Jonathan also scored later in the game when he found the twine off a mad scramble in front of the net. Josh Malyon scored when he fired one in the low corner when in all alone after Kyle Schweda sprung him with a smart pass. Dale Edwards rounded out the scoring when he used his awesome wrist shot to beat the netminder. Jonathan Brouse and Kyle Schweda picked up the helpers. Travis Mackey was sharp between the pipes and Kyle Schweda looked confident on defence. On Saturday, the Manvers Mustangs came to town riding on the suc- cess of their sensational goalie. The Predators came out and attacked the opposition all period long but they could- n't beat this talented netminder. All three lines kept rolling and wouldn't let Manvers out of their own end. Chance after chance was nullified by a trapper, a pad or a skate and the crowd was wondering if Port would ever score. Finally, in the second period, Kyle Schweda made a terrible pass while lying on his stomach as he used his stick to tap a loose puck. Josh Malyon then quickly fired it in the corner before the goalie could react. This didn't throw the goalie off his game as he continued to stop several breakaways. Brody Anderson then squeaked one in off the draw as it just crossed the line. Brody then passed it to Reid Stewart in front of the net and he trickled one between the goalie's pads. In the third as the Manvers goalie was nearing exhaustion, the floodgates opened as Port scored five for an 8-0 victo- ry. Dale Edwards rifled one in the top cor- ner after Jonathan Brouse cleanly won the draw. Andrew Van Camp was next when he put in a fat rebound off Brody Anderson's shot. Kyle Schweda tallied from the slot assisted by Dale Edwards and Jonathan Brouse. Josh Malyon scored next when he went end to end deking several players after Nathan Scott knocked his man off the puck and moved it up to Josh. Andrew Van Camp recorded Port's final goal when he scored in the top corner off a backhand that went over the defenceman's head. Stephen Hall had an awesome game and he skated hard all game. He made several key checks as well as rushed end to end a couple of times. Travis Mackey earned the shutout and made a huge chest save early in the game when it was 0-0 and it didn't look like Port would ever score. Jonathan Brouse and Brody Anderson skat- ed well and had several scoring chances. Josh Malyon, Nathan Scott and Aaron Ashbridge made some terrific passes.
