Anne Mason, mem- bership officer, Provincial Chapter of Ontario I0DE was guest speaker at the May meeting of Susie Sorabiji Chapter IODE held at the home of Shirley Vance. Introduced and thanked by Ruth Wade Mrs. Mason gave members many ideas about holding successful membership projects and their own role as individuals as member- ship convenors within the chapter. Accompanying Mrs. Mason from her Holland Landing Chapter was Susan Williams. Regent Isabell Gould chaired the business meeting and announced the 10st National Chapter of Canada IODE meeting to be held on May 25 to 27 at the Hilton London Ontario Hotel. The fair ambassador representative for Susie Sorabji Chapter IODE is Jocelyn Bell. A framed portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was presented by the chapter to Joseph Gould Public School on Tuesday, May 8. Lois McConney, educa- tion officer requested that $25 gift book certificates to be purchased from Blue Heron Books would be presented to all the public schools in the area for selection of an appropriate book for the school libraries. The chapter also voted to send $30 to their Adopted School Grade VIII class in Hopedale, Labrador. The chapter planned the fundraising projects to be held during the year. Regent Isabell Gould handed over a cheque in the amount of $828.40 to the chapter which was the proceeds of her project of the sale of navy blue nylon IODE embossed portfolios over the past few years. Services office, Sandra Will circulated an enve- lope of items for a layette and each member drew for an item to be brought to the next meeting at her home to be sent to Provincial Chapter of Ontario IODE, Service Department for distribu- tion. Citizenship officer, Barbara Bell circulated a volunteer hours chart where members could record the number of vol- unteer hours they have given within the chapter and other organizations as long as they were not being recorded by those other groups. Regent Isabell Gould will be making a presenta- tion of a copy of the Toronto Municipal Chapter of IODE book award selec- tion, "How Big is Big?" by Stephen Strauss to the Uxbridge Public Library during the next week. The book is autographed by the author and illustrator "and will be placed in the children's library. Eight members of the chapter took part in the volunteer recognition number at the four nights of "Uxperience" perfor- mances at Uxbridge Secondary School. The June meeting of the chapter will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 at the home of Sandra Will, 'Lochanora,' with special guest Keith Davidson. Uxbridge museum now open for the season Preparations are underway for the upcoming 2001 season at the Uxbridge-Scott Museum and Archives. Doors will open to the public beginning Saturday, May 19 for public tours of the heritage buildings, special events and research in the archives and geneal- ogy resource library. Or, simply pack a picnic and visit the park-like set- ting and view that can be found at the museum site. This season, there are plans to develop new programs, exhibits and events in addition to offerings from previous years. During the summer months, weekend programs and activities will introduce chil dren and young-at-heart to heritage arts and crafts. Also, work will be on- going for the new Lucy Montgomery Interpretive Centre. More details and information about summer activities will follow. The first event scheduled is My Father's Log Cabin. This new exhibit features the Gould family and arti- facts found from a recent excavation of their first home in Uxbridge. Curator Allan McGillivray and senior archaeologist Martin Cooper will host the opening which will be held at the Uxbridge-Scott Museum on June 9 from | to 4 p.m. Please call the museum at 905-852-5854 for more details.
