That wish was granted. After competing in the equestrian events on June 13 with her quarter-horse mare, Twister, she came home with two gold medals and a couple of silver awards, too. Ms Dyson, who is a 'Fire Prevention Officer with Markham Fire and Emergency Services, earned a gold medal in barrel racing and anoth- er gold for earning high- est points oyerall in the gymkhana ¢lasses. Silver medals were awarded in the pole bending division and the two-person rescue. _In_ the two-person rescue she was teamed up with Kim Diggs, a sergeant in the Pike from World Games Township Police Department from Indianapolis. "We suffered a few minor injuries but the medals made up for the pain," she says. The only Canadian competing in the eques- trian events, Ms Dyson said all the awards were handed out by family members of fallen offi- cers who had died in the line of fire fighting or police duty. "It was very, very touching," she says. Thousands of ath- letes from 65 countries competed in over 30 sports. In 2003, the 'Games will be held in Barcelona, Spain.
