The game was exciting from start to end with Ajax taking an early 1-0 lead. The Goldsmithing Ladies played hard and soon had the score tied at 1-1 on a - goal by Elyse Michaud on a nice cross from Sara Cosway. The score remained tied at half time even though Port had the pres- sure on Ajax for most of the first half. The second half saw the ladies from Port keep the pressure on and com- pletely outplayed Ajax. Roni Sue Dodd scored two more goals for Port, one on a cross from Sara Cosway and then from a corner kick by Sara. The game ended with Dana's girls getting their first win of the season by a score of 3-1 June 6 saw the ladies travel to Cobourg to take on a strong aggressive team. The pitch was in poor condition with the grass being very long and really slowed down the flow of the game. Cobourg was quick to open the scoring at the eight minute mark, fol- lowed at the 20 minute mark by another goal. The Port ladies have great team spirit and rallied and cut the score to 2-1 at half time on a goal by Kim Marina squad drops season opener Coates. The ladies took to the field for the second half and were determined to tie the score but Cobourg forced the play and were rewarded with a goal at the 15 minute mark to up the score in their favour to 3-1. Dana's dug in and Elyse Michaud scored at the 20 minute mark followed shortly after with a goal by Nicole Vandergaast to tie the score at 3-3. It looked like the game would end tied at three but with five minutes left in the game Cobourg scored a lovely goal to take a 4-3 lead into the last few minutes of play. With the half backs pressing and forwards pressuring Cobourg, Heather Bredin scored with less than a minute left in the game to tie the score at 4-4 and come home with the tie. Due to: injuries and work commitments the ladies were short players and Katie Callery was called up and played a very strong game on defence and a big thank . you goes out to Katie. June 13 saw the ladies take on the other Scugog team and on goals by Emily Cosway with three, Elyse Michaud two, Elizabeth Russell and Kim Coates one each were able to come away with a win 7-0. The Under 8 boys team sponsored by Port Perry Marina hosted the Ajax Warriors in their first game of the season. Travis' Mackey and Nicholas Shinas were awesome in net making several big saves. The defence led by Trevor Grant, Bobby Meade and Mitchell Redshaw did a good job of keeping the ball out of the net. The final score was 5-0 in the Warriors favour. Port next travelled to Whitby and played a much more competitive game. Jack Doupe and Riley Cross played terrific and had several good chances. Jack scored the first goal of the young season for Port off a nice pass from Riley. Brody Anderson, Kyle Schweda, Dale Edwards and Jonathan Brouse also did a good job of moving the ball up the field. Brody worked hard to get in all alone but the goalie was quick to scoop up the shot. Port lost this close game 3-1. Next Port had the Oshawa Kicks come to town. Several players put forth their best effort of the year and the coaches were very pleased with the hustle on the field. Nathan Scott and Connor Haslam were running hard and made several great checks helping out on defence. Chris Culbert played an aggressive game on defence always attacking the ball. Port next faces Uxbridge and is enter- ing a tournament in Scarborough. The coaches know if the boys continue to practice and play hard their first victory is just around the comer. ng Sales, Service & Installations -- Carpet & Upholstery Steam Cleaning - 24 Hour Service Flood & Smoke Damage Emergency Service Shop at Home Service Following "are the results of the Durham Academy of Gymnastics, 2001 Mariposa Sunshine Invitational which was vheld in Orillia on June 2 and 3.
