Exciting Equestrian Action at Dreamcrest Horse Trials The Dreamcrest Horse Trials will bring some of the most thrilling equestrian action in the province to Durham Region July 21 and 22. Over the two days, 300 horse and rider combinations will compete at Port Perry's Dreamcrest Farm. Horse trials -- also known as eventing -- can be described as equine triathlons, 'requiring horses and riders to com- plete three different phases. The first phase is dressage, which is like a compulsory test in figure skating, where horse and rider perform a pre- scribed number of movements and are judged on the horse's obedience, suppleness and harmony with its rider. The second phase, the cross coun- try, is the most exciting for spectators. riders and their galloping steeds race the clock as they jump over a series of solid, varied cross country obstacles, including ditches, banks and water jumps, which put a horse's courage and jumping ability to the test.
