ayy RYN) 2 Ar. My "WEEKEND STAR" A TE ANE FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2001 - 5 Council pledges $5,000 towards noise study From Page 1 Mrs. Parker told council that several homes for sale in the area have dropped their asking price as a result of the noise and the normal enjoyment of their property is being undermined. "We cannot even sit outside in the evening because of the noise," Mrs. Parker said. She said a recent 3 a.m. reading taken by resi- dents in the area for noise levels was recorded at 86 decibals. Normal township regulations call for noise levels not to exceed 55 decibals; they may exceed "that only in special cir- - cumstances. Mayor Doug Moffatt asked if Mrs. Parker "call(ed) Mr. Demmers at 3 a.m, to report your find- ings. I would have." Mrs. Parker replied that she had not and the mayor congratulated her. "You are showing more restraint in this matter than | think | would be able to," said the mayor. Council agreed to set aside $5,000 for a noise study on condition that other preparations to deal with the matter were put in place. 'I would move that we fund up to $5,000 for the study and that we formally request a hearing date on this matter," Councillor Pearce said. Ward 4 Councillor Dave Dietlien also added that a letter would be sent to Mr. Demmers. "We need to send this letter stating that we would like to mediate first and are setting a date for this," Mr. Dietlein said. "The letter should outline what our next step will be should that mediation not be acceptable to (Mr. Demmers)."" Residents of the Hood Road area where the wind turbine is located left the council meeting still skep- tical. "I don't know what will happen," Mrs. Parker said. "He (Mr. Demmers) has been very clear unless we prove it (the noise) violates some regu- lation he just doesn't care."
