By John B. McClelland Weekend Star The Port Perry MoJacks won two games in as many nights earlier this week with a 6-0 whitewash of the Bobcaygeon Bullets Dec. 17. The previous night the MoJacks surrendered just a single goal as they nipped the Georgina Ice 2-1 at the Scugog Arena. Garett MacKinnon got the shutout in Bobcaygeon and although he did not have a great deal of work he had to be very sharp on several occasions when the Bullets were able to muster an attack. It was an auspicious return to action for MacKinnon who had not faced any rubber in about a week while on the side- lines with an infected "tooth. So far this season, MacKinnon and his coun- terpart Matt Balser have shut out opposition teams three times, an out- standing stat in the usual- ly high scoring Central Junior C League. In fact, in 26 games so far, the team has given up 76 goals for a goals- under three, another remarkable feat for Junior C hockey. While the score might suggest the MoJacks had an easy time of it against the Bullets, the team got an excellent effort from those able to suit up for the game. Seven regulars were against-average of just MoJacks action absent from the line-up for various reasons -- injury, work and other personal commitments -- so the MoJacks were down to just 12 skaters at the conclusion of the game in Bobcaygeon. "The guys really rose to the occasion, especially with so many out of the line-up," said General Manager Murray Parliament. And the game featured what surely must be a first for the MoJacks. Their first three goals were scored - while playing short-hand- ed. "I don't recall when a (MoJack) team has scored three consecutive short- handed goals," said the general manager, who has spent nearly 30 years with the organization. Those three goals came in a short span of time near the mid-point of the second period. Adam Mercer got them going when he took the puck from a Bullet defenseman, skated in on a partial breakaway and found net just under the cross bar. About two minutes later, Darryl Steele got a near carbon-copy of Mercer's goal and Matt Harris rounded out the short-handed threesome a few minutes later. Those goals seemed to inject some energy and confidence into the MoJack attack and Harris with his second of the game upped things to 4-0 before the second period || MacKinnon stops Bullets was complete. In the third period Steele nailed down his hat trick for a productive four-point outing as he also assisted on Harris' second marker. SLAPSHOTS: The MoJacks were hopeful that sorhe of their injured players would be back in the lineup for the two upcoming weekend games against Georgina (Friday night) and at home Sunday (Dec. 23) to the Campbellford Rebels of the Eastern Empire B loop. Nathan Cotter is recov- ering from an eye injury, Justin Bennett missed Monday's game with what was described as a mild concussion suffered in the game against Georgina Dec. 16 and Ryan McQuade is out with an ankle injury. That hap- pened in the Dec. 16 - game when he blocked a hard slapshot in the dying seconds with the MoJacks holding a 2-1 lead. After a few days off for Christmas, the Mojacks have a couple of tough games just prior to New Year's. On Dec. 28 they host the Lakefield Chiefs for an 8 p.m. face off. And on Dec. 30, the first-place Uxbridge Bruins pay a visit to the Scugog Arena. This should be a dandy as the MoJacks will be gunning for a victory against the only team that has given them serious trouble so far this season. Face off against the Bruins is 7 p.m. Blackstock Bantam action Low and Low floats to a 10-1 win Bantam Luchka Floats | Low and Low Ltd. 10 Luchka struggled short-handed, and Matt McLean in net, kept working against a strong opponent. Their goal was scored by Craig Silnieks, with an assist going to Andrew Phillipe. Low and Low's goalie, Nathan Alpe, was in fine form, making key saves. Their goals were scored by Justin Williams (5), Justyn Kennedy (4), and Matthew Clancy. Assists went to Dusty Pickard, Andrew In stock only.
