Starting with only two men, the firm has grown in four years so that eight skilled men are now em- ployed in the peak season. Lorne Goodman Plumbing specializes in servic- ing new housing projects. The firm is endeavouring to popularize baseboard hot water heating -- a new system which ensures uniform heat throughout the house without the old unsightly radiators. (See Advertisement on Page 3A) Marbro Stone Company The Marbro Stone Company deals in imported stone chiefly from the states of Tenessee, Indiana and Ohio; in natural Ontario cut stone and it manufactures cast stone, known under the trade name of "Marbro" stone. The firm is also the agent for a stone quarry in the eastern part of the province. Most of the company's work is done in the summer and it has been successful in many of the new subdivisions throughout Oshawa. (See Advertisement on Page 5A) McLaughlin Coal & Supplies Ltd. McLaughlin Coal and Supplies Ltd., 110 King St. W., was founded in 1922 by L. F. McLaughlin and I. E. Argue. They dealt in coke, coal and wood. In 1923, brick, tile, lime and building supplies were added. The business eontinued to prosper. Today it is the largest distributor of heating equipment and building supplies in Oshawa. The firm now employs a large fleet of metered trucks, for prompt oil delivery, as well as their coal trucks. McLaugh- lin Coal and Supplies Ltd. have gained a wide reputation throughout the years, for quality and service. (See Advertisement on Page 17B) McQuay And Kidd Conveniently located at the Whitby Shopping Plaza, McQuay and Kidd Real Estate provides ex- tensive service for their many customers which in- cludes detail photographs of all their listings. Owned and operated by D. W. McQuay and J D. S. K.idd, the firm has been in business in Whitby for two years. Both men have extensive real estate training. Mr. McQuay owned and operated his own business here for one year before joining with Mr. Kidd. Prior to that he was manager of another rea estate business for two years. The $50,500 was an increase from $36,000 in 1957 and double ~~ the awards paid in 1956. Since the suggestion plan was put into effect in 1943, General| Motors employees have received) more than $250,000 for 9430 sug-| gestions, Awards are given for acceptable suggestions which im- prove quality, plant safety or efficiency About a third of the employees who were eligible submitted sug- gestions last year, compared with 25 per cent in 1957. Highest award last year $1770 -- went to Henry Langlais of. Oshawa for his idea to use metal racks capable of holding several automatic transmissions during shipment.
