Mike Solski, former president defeated in March by Don Gillis, said Thursday that he has with- drawn to support former national president Nels Thibault. Thibault will contest Gillis' po- sition Nov. 17 when the Interna. tional Nickel Company workers go to the polls, He announced Aug. 31 he would step down from his natjonal office. Solski said Sept. 1 that he would also 'run for president of Mine-Mill's largest local. Solski was president from 1952 to 1958. In a brief presented to the B.C. government Thursday the 12,000 member chamber said it believes each government should bear the nost of its own services independ- ent of assistance of others, It said the study of the taxation field should be with a view to es- tablishing a pattern that will be more equitable at the three levels of government. BURDEN TOO HEAVY Contributions to such services as schools, hospitals and welfare by B.C. municipalities "are seri- ously prejudicing the ability of] the municipal governments to fi-| nance their own local services." | Tnis is in line with a policy| statement re-affirmed at a recent | convention of the Union of B.C. Municipalities at Kelowna which called on the provincial govern-| ment to take over those servi) completely. The government obiected to the| policy on the ground that if it was put into effect the richer muniei- palities would gain but the poorer ones would lose. Stratford Plant Builds Addition STRATFORD (CP) -- A $300, 000, 40,000-square-foot addition to the Fram Canada Ltd. plant will be built for the production of air filters, F. A.
