12 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, October 9, 1959 By ED WILKS CHICAGO (AP)--Los Angeles Dodgers are baseball champions from seventh place one year tof of the Coliseum, Comiskey Park and the world after brushing off Chicago White Sox two out of] three any place they played. | The snake pit at Los Angeles! had the White Sox talking to themselves. But after all the talk, they appeared to be a tough comeback team when they stayed alive in the world series with a 1-0 victory in the Coliseum at Los Angeles Tuesday, forcing ® a sixth game Thursday at Co ® miskey Park here, That's where the Dodgers and 24 - year - old pitching ace Larry Sherry put the White Sox away for the winner. Wynn, who won the first series game 11-0, got to the fourth in- ning before he was batted out. The 39 « year - old righthander showed signs of wildness while working with just two days' rest. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' | Teams Both To | Play Here Sat. | The Oshawa Rugger Club is go ling from strength DODGERS won the World Series yesterday and did the job with a crushing 9-3, defeat of the White Sox right in their own "real ball park" but even in familiar Comiskey Park, the Chicago club were indeed the "pale hose." Manager Al Lopez called on Early Wynn and it wis too soon to be Early's day. Once the Dodgers got rolling in the hectic fourth inning, White Sox couldn't h4rdly get them out. Even Johnny Podres contributed a double, so did Charlie Neal and Wally Moon homered. Dbnevan replaced Wynn, he didn't have it and finally Turk Lown got the inning over. Staley made another ap- pearance, was good too but gave way for a pinch- hitter. Then Pierce had a try, aggravated his old leg injury and he left, with Moore finishing out the game. For Dodgers, Podres was in there until the fourth, when big Kluszewski hit his three-run homer, Then Podres walked Smith so Manager Walt Alston called in his ace fireman, Larry Sherry and that was it. He had just a little trouble getting past the fourth and then from there on, was the same effective hurler that has dominated this series. He saved two wins in relief for Dodgers and he won two other games, That five-inn- ing minimum prevented Podres from getting credit for yesterday's triumph. Sherry pitched in four games, al- most 13 innings and gave up just one run and his mound performance will rank with the best in World Series history. 5 But if the 1959 World Series Is over, it doesn't mean there'll not be a lot of "Stove League" gossip and second-guessing for the next few days. Meanwhile, this Thanksgiving holiday week-end brings up the annual Ontario softball championship rounds for All-Ontario OASA titles and if the weatherman will only be kind, three Ontario titles will be decided here in Oshawa. The softball playoff parade opens tonight at Alexandra Park, at eight o'clock, with New Liskeard Lions meeting Osh- awa Sunriyside Park in the first game of the Midget finals, under floodlights. Second game of the series is booked for Saturday afternoon on the same diamond, at four o'clock, The Timmins Moneta Moose Royals, Northern Ontario's Juvenile "A" representatives, will open the Juvenile finals against Oshawa Scugog Clean- ers at Alexandra Park tomorrow afternoon early, at one-thirty o'clock with the second game carded for eight o'clock Saturday night. Over at the Radio Park diamond, tomorrow afternoon at 3.00 o'clock, Belleville Bobcats and Niagara Falls will clash in the third and deciding game of the OASA Intermediate "AA" cham- pionship finals. It should make for a very busy session and lots of action for softball fans. TWO OSHAWA BASEBALL teams are also in the running for provincial championship honors and there's the big game tomorrow afternoon, 2.30 o'clock, at Alex- andra Park, when UAW Local 222 take on Chatham in the second game of the OBA Juvenile "A" championship round. The Local 222 boys lost a 3-1 decision in Chat- ham last Saturday and they feel certain they can even up the series on their home diamond tomorrow after- noon, thus forcing a third game. Oshawa Legion Juniors travel to Hamilton Saturday for the second game of the OBA Junior "A" title series. Hamilton beat the Legion Juniors in the first game last week here at Kinsmen Stadium and they'll be hard to beat on their home ground. However, Ted Stone's Legion boys figure they had a bad game last Saturday and that they can come back to top form and even it up with a win in Hamil- ton, If they do, they get the third and deciding game back in Oshawa, having won the toss. If Legion Juniors win tomorrow if Hamilton, the third game will likely be played the following day, either at Kinsmen Stadium of Alexandra Park.
