How- ever, shoppers on Woodstock's Dundas Street, Timmins' Third Avenue or other Ontario main streets will also find plenty of traditional Spring navy. Red--but not last season's top green--is also featured by Montreal and Toronto manufacturers. Stylists indicate a carry-over of Fall- Winter white, from chalky white itself to colors "washed" with white. This whitened lock dominates in checks. Checks will be top news this Spring from cottons through wools and from bold white-and-black to soft white-and-beige. The demure gingham check stages a re- vival. Glen checks are popular in dresses, coats and suits. The Spring coat and suit silhouette focuses attention on sleeves, They are*loose New full square cut sleeves that end just below the elbow give new importance fo the bodice of this worsted wool dress (left). The waistline is ed self belt lightly tied above casually wrapped by a stitch- side slashed pockets. The pure wool fabric with a bulky look permits the fine tailoring of detail in the longer than usual jacket and the straight, slim skirt of this spring suit. The low set, one- button closing allows a de- collete, tailored collar. and shorter than ever -- about elbow length. Many are set into deep armholes. - Daytime dresses have a bare-arm look. The bias cut is again important. Many skirts combine a bias front with a straight back. The wider shoulder emphasis of last season still continues in suits and coats. This is also the time of the year when hearty meals are appre- ciated but variety is the ever constant problem. The year-round standby, ham- burger, can now come to the table dis- guised in dozens of different ways and crowned with any name the cook can think of when asked the usual question "what's that ?" All over the Ontario women have dozens of ways to make hamburger a special dish, even when served more than once a week. Here are a few of their suggestions. Make either bite sized or large cream puff shells and fill with a hot, cooked To An Old Dish mixture of seasoned hamburger and onions, flavored with curry powder. When curry powder is used as extra seasoning after the meat and onions have been cooked it produces a completely different dish. Form hamburger into small balls, cover with barbecue sauce and bake in the oven, then serve over hot, cooked. rice. Or, add celery and uncooked rice to the meat balls and cover with tomato juice, cooking in the even for about 11% hours. . When making a meat loaf try a tin of cream of mushroom soup instead of to- mato juice as the moistening ingredient, and add one or two chopped carrots. A savory meat loaf can be made for slicing cold or for sandwiches by adding a few teaspoons of sandwich spread to the basic meat loaf recipe.
