Whithy came up with this big win under a tremendous handicap, having only two defencemen. Harry Sinden, for the second night in succession, was nrayer by Rev. This was followed by various re- ports. GAMES NIGHT Hillcrest School magnificent to say the least. During his hockey career, Harry has never looked better, and appropriately enough it was in front of Kitchener fans, who will be pulling for him as a member of their fine hockey club in the forthcoming Olympics in Squaw Valley. Also it would help to clam up a few Kitchener yokels, who were more than eager to criticize during the Russian-Kitchener game last Sunday. Instead of figuring the handicap of adjusting oneself to the FRI, JAN. 29th 8 PM. Army Women's Home| League was held last Thursday evening at the Citadel. The meet-| strange surroundings of the Kitchener club, they were jumping the gun a little too quickly on many oc- easions. Not one of them probably realize that it was Harry's perfectly laid pass on Gary Sharpe's stick which resulted in the fifth goal and the eventual winner, On Tuesday night against the Selects, Sinden worked feverishly, breaking up many of the fine plays made by the Russians. Upon returning to the ice early in the third period after serving a penalty, Harry picked up a pass at centre ice and raced in on Chinov, only to miss the net. Instead of returning to the bench as most players would have done, he kept an eye on Sandy Air, checking the Moscow player in the corner, and sure enough the pass came to him and he promptly fired it home, A nice reward for an evening's hard work. Other features from Wednes- day's victory over Kitchener was the terrific per- formance of Fred Etcher, scoring two goals and assisting on two also. That was the closest Fred has come to looking like his old self for nearly three years. He was lugging the puck out of his own end with great efficiency, and generally working hard all night. His team mates, Bobby Attersley and George Samolenko played well also. Once "Etch" started to roll the tempo of their line picked up considerably. Samolenko seems to go according to the rest of their unit, and as a result they ¢ombined for three of the five goals. Don McBeth is another member of the Dunlops who performed very well and has improved greatly this season, especially since being taxed with extra work due to Alf Treen's injury. Jack Kane was skating hard again, and scored one of the nicest goals of the game. Bob Hassard and Pete Babando received special praise for their work on the blueline, filling the gap left by Treen and playing-coach Ted O'Con- nor. "Oke" will be out of action for at least two weeks and possibly one month. Also there is a chance that McBeth will not dress tonight, having pulled a muscle or two in his side, Many observers of the Russian-Whitby game on Tuesday were of the impression that Whitby need not have acquired the extra reinforcements. We readily agree, but the truth of the matter is--the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association requested that the Whitby Dunlops use, Bob Rosseau, Don Rope and Butch Martin as one line, wanting to see how they would fare against International competition. Also they asked to have Moe Benoit used on defence, as he was also under consideration for the Kitchener- Waterloo club. Cesare Maniago was used on request from the Kitchener management because he also is on the list of players who will bolster the Dutchmen in the Olympics. Ralph Hoskings was used by the locals on consent from the K-W club, mainly be- cause he will eventually be in a Whitby uniform when Harry Sinden leaves and it would give him a chance to get used to the club's style of play. TOWN AND COUNTRY . .. Clinton Comets of the United States Eastern League are having more than their share of injuries. In their last outing against 'Washington, they had only ten players dressed. They lost the game, 1-0, and it was their second straight 1-0 loss. The Comets have iced a complete team only once since November 3rd. Even under these adverse conditions, the club is still lead- ing their division , .. We wonder how hockey fans feel about a club like New York after they received an 11-2 shellacking from the Montreal Canadiens. Should they be lowered to another class of hockey as was suggested for the Moscow Selects because they happened to lose 9-1? Let's quit kidding ourselves. When a club of professional calibre gets beat by such a large score right in our country, it's more than possible for it to happen to foreign countries. Maybe it was the fine play of the "Dunnies" and not the in- adequacy of the Russians that resulted in the one- sided score Tuesday night.
