Up in Brampton, on Thursday, Oshawa rinks were eliminated by Granites Alfie Phillips and Dr. R. W, Marshall and we have it on the report of several local eye-witnesses of this event, that the Oshawa curlers gave a good account of themselves, but still went down to defeat. Only claim to fame here in Oshawa in the Silver Tankard triumph by Toronto Granites that Dick Chant, former local Duplate associate, was a mem- ber of Dr. Marshall's rink. Oshawa curlers gave the Granites their toughest opposition yesterday. In the finals, they were duck-soup winners over Brantford and Kingston. Unionville rinks won the Governor- General's Cup play, beating out Kingston in the finals. is Buffalo has been accepted as the 8th team in the new Continental Baseball League--and if the deal goes through--and we do mean if the deal goes all the way through -- Buffalo will likely quit the International League to join baseball's third Major League circuit-- and if they do, the situation becomes serious. Toronto is also an entry in the Continental circuit--and it be- comes pretty obvious, that if the Continental League is a success--the International League washed up. Due to sponsorships from existing Major League teams, we find it hard to accept this as a final outcome. Jack Kent Cooke has been named as a vice-president of the new Continental League but with the obvious lack of professional ball players of this type of calibre, we can not help but wonder what is going to happen. If the International League is merely going to be replaced in name only, by the Continental League--then it doesn't mean very much. is BRIGHT BITS: -- Dominique DiMaggio has been revealed as one of the main financial sponsors of Bos- ton's entry in the new American Football League ROCKY NELSON has been named to the International League's Hall of Fame. So??? ... NORTH BAY hockey fans were all "het up" over the prospects of a Junior "A" entry but apparently they're not going to get it from Canadiens, who are happy with their Brock- ville associations and intend to stay there. If North Bay is to have a Junior "A" team, it looks as if they'll have to rely upon Toronto Maple Leafs . . . RAY BOONE, a Big League veteran, has signed his 1960 contract with Milwaukee Braves, a club that has found itself in a holdout problem, this spring . . . WHITBY DUNLOPS knocked off Chatham Maroons last night right in Chatham and the win just about puts Dunnies in the top seat of the OHA Senior "A" race, as they have several games "in hand".
