NE TmE GInAwWA », friday, February 26, 1960 Murder Hearing Shooting Sequel BRACEBRIDGE (CP)--Robert Leslie Armstrong, 47, of Kil- vo as committed Thursday for trial on a charge of murder ing Eugene Jones, 38, in the Armstrong home Feb. 8. Jones, shot in the back of the head, died en route to a Toronto hospital from the home 17 miles north of Orillia. Provincial police testified they found 13 empty wine bottles outside the house. Boat Mishaps Said On Drop PETERBOROUGH (CP)--Boat- ing accidents in Canada are steadily decreasing despite] rmists' announcements to the ary, says Robert Kelley, managing director of the Allied Boating Association of Canada. Mr. Kelley replied to remarks by W. Bev. Lewis, Progressive Conservative member of the leg-| islature. who said Wednesday | that resort area waters were clogged with speeding motor boats. Mr, Lewis said the federal government should licence boat drivers Mr. Kelley said licencing of boat drivers had been thoroughly discussed at marine safety meet- ings called at regular intervals by the nautical division of the de- partment of transport. | General agreement was reached with the federal govern- ment' that the issuance of boat drivers licences was impractical and unnecessary," he said. "Other more effective avenues are being explored to reduce even further the number of boating ac- cidents in this country." Better Market Plan Proposed To Milk Group HAMILTON (CP) -- Improved methods of marketing were sug- gested at the annual meeting of the Ontario Concentrated Milk Producers Association Thursday. Wilfred Keas, re-elected presi- dent, told the producers: "There will never be a price blend or the pooling of fluid milk and con- centrated milk without the con- sent of a large majority of fluid milk producers. Everett Biggs, assi minister of agriculture tario, urged immediate consider- ation by farm leaders to the study of a national marketing plan for certain commodities, KNOW THE CONSUMER Gordon Greer, president of the Ontario Federation of Agricul- ture, said: "We 'have to get closer to the consumer and the only way we can do it is collec tively and through a proper mar- keting system." He said such a system would guarantee raw milk producers a fair price. i Mr. Greer said he felt the fed- eral government would have pub- lie support if it bought 100,000,000 pounds of powdered milk and gave it to Asians. Jack Palmer, Ontario depart- ment of agriculture associate di- rector of dairying, said a 1939 survey showed many farmers lacked cooling systems and warned that bacteria doubles every 20 minutes in warm milk. Officers elected were: past president William G. Tilden, Har- riston; president Wilfred Keays, Hyde Park: first vice-president Wilton Honey, Waterford; second vice-president A. Sidney Pear- son, Embro; and directors George Lowrey, Almonte; Orvil Guy, Winchester; Fred Hoffner, Kerwood; Charles McInnis, Iro- quois; and Frank Way, Ingersoll. Green Attacks China Policy Of Aggression TORONTO (CP)--External Af- fairs Minister Green criticized Communist China Thursday night for throwing its weight around in Asia "There has been evidence that Peking is willing to use its grow- ing military power against its peighbors in Asia in what it evidently considers to be its na- tional interests," he said. He evidently was referring, in an address to the board of evangelism and social service of the United Church of Canada, to China's: pressure against India in the Himalayas and its suppres- sion of Tibet. Mr. Green cited Premier Chou En-lai's statement that any coun- try desiring to establish diplo- matic relations with Red China must sever ties with Chiang Kai- shek"s Nationalist regime on For- mosa. The Canadian government was not prepared to take any step that would facilitate the Communist pecupation of Formosa, Mr. Green also suggested that the United Nations must eventu- ally reassume a dominant role in gisarmament. "As progress is made in dis- armament it will, I think, become pecessary to set up an interna- lional disarmament body under the United Nations," he said.
