GUESTS OF GM Two G When Hearts of Midlothian Football Club of Manchester visit Oshawa on Friday of this week, they will be writing a new page ia the history of sports in Osh awa, They are scheduled to ap- pear at Varsity Stadium on Sat- urday night, May 14. commenc- ing at 8.00 p.m. For the Scottish League Cham- pions, Hearts, it will be their second appearance in Toronto in two years. In 1958 they met Manchester City at Varsity Stad {um, but as happened to most of the Scottish teams, who have ap peared in Toronto since the war, they were defeated. Their trip this year is greatly antici- pated for Tommy Walker's Edin- burgh team wish to avenge that showing. HAVE STRONG FOLLOWING Enthusiasm for the Hearts not limited to the city, but wide-spread beyond its bounds and particularly in the Lothian and 'Border hinterlands of coal and oil towns and villages, vigor ous industrial burghs and fertile farm lands. From the country- side and the coastal fringe they make their way to Tynecastle the home stadium of the Hearts and neither the city folk nor those from the country parts have ever abated their enthus- asm. even when the fortunes of the club were in the doldrums It has been written that when the Hearts brought home to Edinburgh in 1954, the Scottish League Cup -- their first major victory in many years, the douce pe! citizens of Edinburgh had not been so demonstrative since they lynched Captain Porteous of the City Guard, as described in Sir Walter's Scott's Heart of Mid- lothian.
