Flalleyy Everyone needs swim suits, especially now that so many private swimming pools are be- ing installed. And almost any place you go there are swim- ming facilities, natural or pool. You'll find that even Stratford provides good swimming along with Shakespeare. But too often the swim suit is too quickly se- lected. On many holidays, the swim suit is actually your most important wardrobe item. Shop for your suit with your figure problems in mind. Buy prints in the same way you would a dress--small, neat patterns "for the heavier figure, the big splashy tropical florals for the petite. Styles, too, are importart "for your best beach look. For the slender young thing there's everything from a modified Bi- kini(a bare Bikini for the private pool, please) to a bra-and-little' boy pants. For the heavier figure, especially where the thighs are thick, the best style is a slim-skirted or a dressmaker own the beach pleated silhouette. The sarong hemline is also femininely pretty. And for the very style conscious, there's the new blouson. Yes, even in swim suits! There are so many materials, too, from Cole of California's screen printed nylon chiffon over cotton to Catalina's acetate, cotton and rubber lastex, to Jantzen's polyester fiber blend- ed with rayon. It depends a great deal on what part your swim suit plays in your summer life. Catalina has a: slogan --- three swim suits to a wardrobe, one to wear, one to dry and one to spare. This could 'provide variety, a quick drying cotton. Tailored | types checked lastex. Knitted cotton and elastic. RHO Swim sheath for the sophisticate. nylon knit or dacron-and-cotton; a hand screened cotton broad- cloth or antique acetate satin for more glamorous wear and perhaps a wool knit for cooler days. Certainly you should have at least two suits, for comfort if not for any other reason. Nothing is more unpleasant than struggling into a clinging wet bathing suit for that second swim. Colors, too, should be care- fully studied with a view to what the summer sun does to your skin. If you tan a nice deep even brown -- and can keep it for the rest of the sum- mer -- then, yellow prints or newly-in-the-fashion amethyst or stark white are ideal. If you turn red; peel and turn red again -- or if you keep out of [3 SATURDAY, JUNE 25 Youthful print suit in blue and white. the sun and stay comparatively white -- select a mixed color print or blue tones. SHORTS VERSUS SKIRTS... Too many women wear. shorts on vacations -- and shop- ping. Actually very few look their best in shorts. Girdles are difficult to wear, even under the Bermuda or Jamaica length, and without some restraint bul- ges bulge. I've always believed that every woman should be: compelled to view herself in shorts, from every angle, on a movie screen. Then, perhaps, she would do one of two things-- invest in high priced tailored shorts which minimize the inevi- table or take to wearing a short-_ er casual skirt. There are smart button-up-front full ones, to wear with sleevless tops, and: also slim styles with a button- in front box pleat that is re- vealed only when the skirt is partially unbuttoned. This gives slimness or semi-fulness at will. Shorts do have their place in boats, I'll grant you, but defini- tely not on streets or in super- markets, :
