O. Shonibare, manag- ing Director of the Amalgamated Press Ltd., of Nigeria, Kenneth R. Thomson, President of Thom- son Internafional Limited of To- ronto, Canada, and Roy Thomson Chairman of Thomson N papers Limited, of London, Eng- land. The Amalgamated Press pub- fishes in Lagos, the Nigerian Federal Capital, the Daily Ser- vice, the Sunday Express and the weekly Srohim Yoruba. A new national daily news- paper, called the Daily Express, will be created out of the new partnership. The Sunday Express will become the Sunday national newspaper of the country. Both these newspapers will be publish- ed in Lagos. NEW VENTURE The unprecedented ven- ture in Commonwealth co-opera- tion is the result of an approach by the Amalgamated Press Ltd. of Nigeria to Roy Thomson tol make available the necessary re-| sources and technical know-how for the speedy development of a modern newspaper industry in Ni- geria. Under a 50-50 partnership agreement just signed, the Amal- gamated Press of Nigeria will re- ceive fresh capital, new plant, technical assistance and a host of ancillary services from Thom- son International Ltd., of Toronto, to facilitate, for the first time, the rapid build-up of modern national newspapers to serve the interests of Nigeria at home and enhance the prestige of Nigeria abroad. VOICE OF NIGERIA In accepting this from Amalgamated Press, Ken- neth Thomson said that he is mo- tivated by the desire to assist the pewest member of the Common- wealth to take her rightful place with other nations of the Com- monwealtk and the free, com- munity of nations at large.
