In the first minute, Vikings kicked the ball over the goal- line but "Bank" recovered and a 25-yard '"'drop-out" followed. Jerry Tymoshik, Vikings' »| scrum half, opened the scoring, following up a kicked ball, re- covering it on a good bounce and driving over to score. The convert failed. The visitors capitalized on a loose scrum infraction, in front of Vikings' goal-posts and a field goal, by their fly-half, tied the score. Minutes later, "Bank" com- mitted a similar misplay and on the penalty kick, Tymoshik tap- plunged over at the corner flag, for the try. Again the convert attempt was a failure. Vikings came right back to "give" the Bank another free effort, on an infraction commit- ted 20 yards in front of the posts. The penalty kick was missed] but several Oshawa players kept moving about, contrary to rules, and this gave the Bank fly-half another chance -- and this time he was successful, with his kick to make it a 6-6 score. Marhall Nicholishen ran 25 yards to score, after a hand-off play was passed to Don Taylor, who smartly lateralled to Nicho- lishen. The convert missed and the halftime whistle found the score 9-6. Port Credit Sailors 'Win Over Brooklin | | By GERRY BLAIR Port Credit Sailors, defending Mann Cup champions, gained their first victory of the infant 1961 OLA Senior lacrosse sched- ule by downing the Brooklin Hillcrests, 11-8 in overtime, last night in Brooklin. Brooklin and Port Credit are now deadlocked for second spot with a win and a loss each. Brampton has taken over sole possession of first place by vir- tue of a 12-10 victory over St. Catharines Athletics, in Bramp- ton Saturday. Hillcrests led 5-1 near the end |of the second period. The more experienced Sailors suddenly broke loose, and scored five un- answered goals, to lead 6-5 with only one minute remaining in the third period. Don Craggs scored the equalizer in the final minute to send the game into overtime. Brooklin bottled up the Port Credit offence for the. majority of the game and appeared head- ed for a one-sided verdict. "Ricky" McGarry was the winning pitcher for Beaton's but needed relief help from "Rick" Johnson, when Local 222 put on a last-ditch stand in the 7th. McGarry had little trouble, yeilded only three scattered hits in the first six frames plus the odd walk but in the 7th, Arm- strong opened by getting on via an error, then Tullock, a pinch- hitter, drew a walk. McGarry got the next two batters but Calder singled to score Arm- strong. Gibbons drew a walk to load the bases and at this point, Johnson came in and pitched to Gaatch -- getting him on a fly to right field, to end the game. Calder, pitch- ing for UAW, gave up two runs on two hits and two errors, plus a walk, in the first inning.
