J. David Ford, former fur trader and Eskimo linguist who supervises the Canadian Arctic exhibit on Hill Island, Ont., in the Thousand Islands, partici pated in six major television and radio shows here within a period of 36 hours. American interest in the Arc- - tic regions of Canada is appar- ently insatiable and Ford spent all his waking time during a two-day visit going from studio to stddio. : Ford's whirlwind performance resulted in requests for his ap- pearance on several future shows. Rum-Runner Lives Quietly ST. LUKES, Ont. (CP)--In a| houseboat moored in St. Lukes| Channel off Lake St. Clair ives] a freshwater seadog who likes to pass the time telling yarns| of his adventurour career as a rum-runner during the 1920s. Connie Blanchard, 54, now| occupies himself by pan-fish- ing off his 40-by-14-foot house- boat in the channel near the mouth of the Thames River 30 miles east of Windsor. | Ill-health has forced the one- time sailor, boat - builder and| commercial fisherman to lead a sedentary life. But he's al-| ways ready to talk about the] seven years he spent running| rum and beer across the lake| to thirsty Americans during the| prohibition era. | "Often we would have to jump overboard to get away) from the law.
