¥ 70 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday, August 2, 1961 Detention Inquiry Ordered TORONTO (CP) -- Reforms Institutions Minister Wardrope Tuesday ordered an investiga- tion into the detention in the Don Jail of persons attending a party in a private home 10 days ago. Morality officers raided the home and arrested 14 men and eight women, All were taken to the jail where the women were ordered to strip for a medical examination and were later dressed in prison garb, Mr. Wardrope said he could not see why they should have been taken to the jail "for such a minor incident as being part of a house party." Acting Metro Police Chief Ro- bert Kerr has also asked for a report from officers involved. Werner Graeber, 31, who held the party, said he is considering legal action against the police department. He was charged with keeping liquor for sale and with permitting drunkenness. The 21 others were charged as found-ins. The liquor charge against] Graeber was dismissed and the] found - in charges were with- drawn. | Graeber said legal costs for all accused exceeded $500. His planned release from re- striction of movement under, which he has been living since serving 5% years of a seven- year sentence for managing the Mau Mau was announced in the House of Commons by Colonial Secretary Iain Macleod. The colonial secretary said he believed the difficult decision to release Ken- yatta was "in the best interests of all the peoples of Kenya and that it should be taken now." Both of Kenya's main Negro parties--the Kenya African Na- tional Union and the Kenya Af- rican Democratic Union -- have been pressing for his immedi- ate release.
