Blank Tmps' needed about two feet for a third down and elected to try it up the middle, against a power- ful Scarboro line that wasn't yielding a thing. The attempt failed -- around one of the ends, it might have worked -- a kick would have been a percentage cinch -- but the plunge up the middle, that was a failure. Once in possession, Scarboro struck for a quick touchdown from the Oshawa 28-yard line and although it wasn't convert- ed -- they blocked McArthur's attempt the visitors came right back before the half-time whistle, via Burrows, their scat- back half, to make it 18-0 and Adrian Smith converted for a 19-0 lead at half-time. Burrows was the big ground- gainer for Scarboro. As a matter of fact, it's not unlikely that the down- pour was so heavy that play out in Port Perry this after- noon may be impossible. The "Squirts" will play at North Oshawa, we feel quite sure, since that diamond is high, dry and sandy -- and dries up as quick as any diamond in Oshawa. But Port Perry's playing field is in low ground and they could be ankle-deep in mud today. At any rate, outside of the Carling Cup soccer game at Kingston Stadium tonight, there's not much else on the Sports Calendar for this week-end. Mount Zion plays Colpoy Bay on Monday (Labor Day) night instead of tonight, as at first reported. Heffering's Im- perials are to play in Trenton tonight and the second game is back here at Alexandra Park on Tuesday night, under the floodlights. We didn't hear how Scugog Clean= ers made out in Owen Sound last night -- they probably were rained out, in which case, they'll have to go back there early next week. Port Perry and Havelock, in Junior "C" playoffs, have had about three tries at playing a game in "Port" -- and the latest arrangement is to play there this Tuesday evening. runs Maris, , S83 Pr If; 1, 8 -FIRST SHOT IA-SAILOGAN (entry) 1 -SOURDOUGH (entry) andfour-year-old maidens.
