B THE OSHAWA TIMES, Fridey, October 6, 1961 KEEP IN TRIM Stretch your mind with a habit-changing idea. Instead of looking upon your favorite fat- tening foods as adding to your pleasure in life, regard the ex- cess pounds as standing in your way of feeling young and hav- ing fun. This shift in emphasis can be unexpectedly energizing. Enthusiasm is contagious, so read on! "I can't believe it is me rid- ing a bike, or swimming or play- ing ball and badminton. I'm having fun again!" This line was included in a tri- umphant report from a young woman who, in the summer of Courageous Dieter Reduces From Size 52 To Size 18 1960, couldn't get into a size 52 bathing suit. She weighed 250 pounds. As she struggled with the suit, she sensed that the summer ahead would be no fun at all, for she had allowed eat- ing to crowd out all other pleas- ures. Suddenly a new resolve was born in her heart, Out came the calorie chart from its hiding place and she began. Here is her mid-summer report of 1961 "On July 4th we had a party, not only to celebrate our coun- try's independence, but my in- dependence from 100 excess pounds. I feel like a new per: son. People do not even recog nize me this summer. Who ean blame them? Last summer I wore size 52 and now I am wear- ing size 18. I'm getting closer to that prize size 16 all the time. "When I see someone who is fat, as I was, I don't tell them to diet because that won't help. Every one would tell me, 'You are an RN, you should know the danger of overweight." It's true, I knew. My 10-year-old daughter didn't want me to visit her school and I knew why . . . even though she didn't say. "I really feel like a crusader and wish I could help others. I realize, however, that the in- centive must come from within. But this I can Lromise . . . when you finally decide to slim down, and keep your mind on your goal, you can do it. "Even my doctor is surprised at mv will power. I no longer look 50 years old. Now I look more like my 36 years. I still want to shed 20 pounds but I am no longer anxious. By next summer I should be the size 16 I want to be and I will stay there forever. Now that I have lost all this weight I am able to exer- cise to improve my figure. "I feel so wonderful. One hun- dred excess pounds seems al- most impossible to lose. But if 1 could do it, I know every over- weight can.' was just a sucker for chocolate cake and pudding and all the fatteners. I know now that nothing is better than having enough energy to live life fully. I have gone back to nursing again now, for RN's are scarce. I had planned to re- port earlier, but this summer I have been so busy having fun and trying to make up for the lost years. { "One day soon I will send you some before and after pictures. f They really tell more than word| can ever say." | 3% A BABY DOLL Kimberly Lisa is the daugh- | Don Mills, Ontario; Mr. and ter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie R. | Mrs. W.
