Sunday made the Lions Club refreshment booth a very popular place to get warmed-up. Hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate were available to help keep the blood circulating while watching the races. The coach must have said something to the Port boys in between periods, as the Flamingos came out in the third period and in 6 minutes put themselves ahead by 3) goals. Cari Mason, captain of the winning team receives the trophy from IGA proprietor, Dan Madsen. Oshawa Team Wins Bantam Tournament The opening face off of the 1971 Bantam Tournament saw Port Perry against New- castle. Port Perry won this game 5-1 on 2 goals each by Rod Campbell and Doug Bronson, and the single scor- ed by Jay Neil. 3 assists for Doug Christie, 2 for Andy Litt and one each for Jay Neil and Doug Bronson. 9:00 am. game saw Bay Ridges against a strong Osh- awa team and this game end- ed 5-1 in favour of Oshawa. 10:00 a.m. Stouffville play- ed the Welland Bantam "B" team and won 50. In this game Welland skated well but couldn't find the net. 11:00 a.m. Brooklin stored only 1 goal against Oakwood who won 41. This Oakwood team had a lot of class and displayed a lot of puck con- trol and looked like a really 12 o'clock saw two evenly matched teams hook up, al- though in the scoring dept. 2nd from Grant McLaughlin | Newcastle had " trouble find- aasisted by Rick Trotter and) i.¢ the net and lost to Bay Glenn Geer, 3rd by Martin) nidges 5-1. This eliminated Adamson, assisted by Rob| Newcastle and put Bay Rid- Munro and Ron Short. Later} ges in the consolation finals. Photo Arnold Roach ed Oakwood in what looked like the favoured Stouffville team were going to have their measure. 1 goal for each team in the first period and a tie game going into the second period till Oakwood got a double penalty and a misconduct. This was their downfall as Stouffville power play scored the winner at this time and neither team scored in the 3rd period. This eliminated Oakwood and sent Stouffville to the cham- pionship finals. 430 -- Consolation Final game, Brooklin vs. Bay Rid- ges. For a while Brooklin looked like they might win easily. They led 20 in the first period, only to have Bay Ridges come back and score 2 in the second period. The game was tied at the end of 3 periods and after a score less 5 min. overtime Bay Ridges won the penalty shots on goal 2-1, thus winning the! consolation series for the Van Camp Trophy. of the first, 2-2 the end of the secand period. All in all everyone enjoyed a fine day of Bantam Hockey. All the players participating in this Tournament received Crests and a Turkey Dinner served at the Scout Hall. The draw for the Mini Bike had the kids all on edge and it was won by a lucky lad of 9 years, by the name of Gerald Lee, Scugog St., Port Perry. Port looked sluggish in this game and couldn't finish on scor- ing plays around Oshawa's| net.
