The sheriff conveyed Geo. E. Alger to Kingston on Tuesday (Mar. 24), a change which the latter had strongly urged, as he was anxious to face the worst of it, a feature which distinguished his conduct – thought out the unfortunate business which led to his present position. Whatever else may be said of Alger, he certainly has that particular kind of courage which enables a man to face his accusers even in denying his own crimes. To be brave in the hour of trial is a grand thing; but if that trial be one for violation of the country’s laws it is a different thing.
