"" Harvey-Hunt Evening Auxiliary Named For Rev The Harvey-Hunet Evening| Auxiliary of the Woman's Mis- sionary Soviety of Simcoe Street United Church .was organized on.May 21, 1924, at a meeting chaired by Mrs. James Ross, the then president of the parent organization, the afternoon aux- iliary of Simcoe Street WMS. Harvey-Hunt organized as a sen- ior mission circle was required 'by constitution to have a mem- ber of the parent organization act as adviser to the circle and the late Mrs. Wilson Mackie was chosen Honorary President, an office she held for thirty-two years. Mrs. Mackie suggested the name for the Auxiliary fol- lowinz the suggestion of the late Mrs. B. J. Gay, then eer! of the afternoon Auxiliary in| April. 1922, that the group take! on the status of an auxiliary, | entailing heavier financial re- | s msibility. Harvey-Hunt com-) bimes the names of two of the, older most valued members of the "VMS of the' then Simcoe Street Methodist Church -- Mrs. Harvev, mother of one of our valued members, Miss Cora} Harvey, and Mrs. Hunt. Any missionary . organization) ered Members. has one fundamental purpose -- to carry' through Christ's com- mand -- 'Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature". Since not all ean. go, Harvey-Hunt Auxiliary endeavors, through programs of inspiration and of education, to encourage its members to give of their time, their talents and their substance te support those who are able to go and preach. Our membership totals -sixty- four. From a remittance of " 48.12 the first year our contri- butions to the missionary cause have grown to $1700 in 1960. In addition we send many pounds of clothing to Toronto to be in- cluded in the Overseas bales and assist with missionary en- deavors in Canada. Over 90 per cent of the financial objec- tive is raised by -systematic vqluntary giving. The members of Harvey-Hunt Auxiliary are looking forward to the samé growth in the coming years as a member of the new United Church Woman's organ- ization as has been experienced in the past years as a Mission- ary Auxiliary.
