Stir occasionally. Com- doesn't need baking is good|bine crushed vanilla wafers A holiday fruit cake fiews for busy homemakers this Christmas season. You can re- serve precious oven space for the numerous cookies and other traditional delicacies that re- quire baking, and whip up a festive dessert that needs only a large mixing bowl, and a cor- ner of the refrigerator. Here is a recipe for such a cake with evaporated milk as an ingredient which keeps the cake firm and moist. As an accompaniment, we suggest serving a flavorful holi- day sauce with the cake. It can be made quite economically since it, too, uses evaporated milk -- this time chilled, then 1 whipped into delightful mounds) to be folded into the sauce. As a fine dessert 'mid the rush of holiday preparation, or as a party refreshment, this pair will prove a useful and de- licious combination. Yet few) plants can fade as quickly,| once the holiday season is over. Horticulturalists with the On- tario Department of Agriculture say that you can get six good weeks out of your poinsettias if you follow this advice. Keep the plant in a bright, sunny location; avoid drafts or hot-air registers (poinsettias need steady tem- peratures); water as soon as the soil appears dry. Temperature is the important factor. If a day temperature of about 70 degrees F. and a night temperature of 60 to 65 degrees F. are maintained, your plants will thrive through and for some time after Christmas. If the lower leaves turn yellow, wilt and drop, blame dry soil and a sudden temperature change. If the plant is stunted, with yellowing of the top leaves, a nitrogen deficiency is probably the cause. After the plants are @stablished, it's a good idea to feed them every two weeks with a complete fertilizer. If you want to carry plants over for another year, here's what to do. After the flowering period, rest them in a cool spot and let the soil dry out. Cut the plants back part way. Then place them in larger pots, water, give lots of light and 65 to 70 degree temperatures. Then they are on the way to Christmas blooming. Temple. | Burnside were named _ god- parents.
