The Cremona tourist agency bought one from a Lon- don or. for a reported LITERARY PRIZE LONDON (CP)--A first. edi- tion of 'Alice in Wonderland" that was bought for two shill- ings and threepence in an In- dian bookshop, sold for £880 at a London auction. It was bought by New York dealer Lew Feld- man from the anonymous owner who discovered the book in hospitgl. Bangalore. and butcher whales for use as human food. The United Fishermen and Al- lied Workers Union (Ind.) has agreed that the Japanese can best teach its 150 whaling men the methods of electronic detec- tion and preserving of whale meat for the dinner table. The instruction is necessary because the B.C. whaling indus- try is converting its operation from reduction of whales to meal and oil to the processing of the meat for sale in the Ori- ent. The Western Canada Whaling Company, formed by B.C. Pack- ers Limited and a huge Jap- anese fishing firm, will bring two Japanese killer boats to the B.C, coast. The company will bring in Japanese captain-gunners of the new boats which are equipped with special electronic detecting gear and modern harpoon guns. Japanese engineers and mater will also be brought. over with the boats to teach Canadian crews to man them. The Jap- anese will return home when the Canadians have learned the new technique. Japanese. staff at the proces- sing plant on Quatsino Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Is- land will include an assistant manager, two inspectors to su- pervise handling of the mea and eight flensers (whale but- chers) to train Canadians in butchering the carcasses. But before whaling can res- ume next year, the union and company must agree on a pro- duction bonus clause and vaca- tions. B.C. Packers' six-boat whal- ing fleet was. idle last year after the firm decided the world price for oil and reduction meat made in uneconomical to oper- ate. The six-month whaling season opens March 1 when the whaler are migrating north and be al conditions are favor- able. CHRISTMAS VISIT By MRS, R. 8.
