He aiso stressed the of cleanliness in personal habits as well as that of a catering group. Not only is the preparation and dispen- sation of food important, but also the proper method of dish- washing, if disease and contam- ination is to be prevented. The use of % ounce of chlorine per gallon of clear warm water is sufficient to sterilize the dishes and not leave a trace of odor. This solution of course would be the final rinse water if sterilization is to be effective. Dr. Watt informed the mem- bers that in January of 1962, Oshawa was the first city to pass a by-law wherin those engaged in food catering of any description will be subject to inspection by the Health Depart- ment. This step was taken be- cause 90 per cent of food poison- ing cases all over the country originate from private catering. This of course happens because the food to be used is prepared at various points in the city and broughi to its destination just before serving time. In closing Dr. Watt expressed the hope that the women of Oshawa would accept this by- law, since it is for the good of the community as well as enhancing our reputation for cleanliness and good food. Mrs. Patrick Roberts thanked Dr. Watt on behalf of the members. Mrs. Walter Branch presided. Warenycia, Orange. The program chairman, Mrs. E. J Bradley, introduced Mrs. Ray Stephenson, Akela of the 13th Cub Pack. Mrs. Stephenson presented a most interesting talk on Cubbing. She pointed out that boredom was the worst enemy of young people today but good Scouts or Guides did not face this prob- lem very often. The good realized from Cub- bing was not always evident at the beginning and often did not become apparent until the boy was ready for Scouts. While meetings were well dis- ciplined, the Cub learns in a friendly, 'good fun' atmos- phere to participate in games, to get along with his fellow Cub and 'to be concerned about others around him. Donations ANN LANDERS Dear Ann Landers: Her fa- ther is a prominent citizen. His parents are loved and respected by everyone in the community. Both the boy and the girl are good students and well liked. Today everyone learned the truth. She is almost six months pregnant. Afraid to face their parents they have continued to go to school. The rumors have been going around for several weesk but nobody knew for sure. Some of their friends have dropped them. I feel only pity. My heart aches for these kids who have gotton off to a terrible start. They are only 17 and don't know which way to turn. Mar- riage is such a big step. They know they aren"t ready for it. for flowers during the past six months have totalled to $76.00. Four white missals were pur- chased by the committee to be used ai weddings. Seven yards of iace were purchased for the altar cloth which had been pre- viously donated by Vera Brown. The following are members of the Altar Committee: Mrs. William Romhany Mrs. James Sabyan, Mrs. Sidney Sheridan, Mrs. John Salter, Mrs. Gerlad Merkley, Mrs. Frank Flynn and) Mrs. John Polman. | Mrs. Branch reminded the members of the forthcoming regional meeting to be held at St. Gertrude's on February 25, 1962, at 3 p.m. Please, Ann, re - emphasize the dangers of going steady. Keep pounding away on the theme that virtue is just plain common sense. Teen-agers will listen to you before they will listen to their parents. You can --and should -- enlist your hus- band's co-operation in case this situation should come up in the future, however. Your husband should say: "My wife makes all the social 9 in our family. Please call er." Dear Ann Landers: Some- things has been on my mind for a long time and I need an answer. I've been bugged for ages over this and it happens to me all the time Why does a guy ask a girl for her telephone number if he has no intention of using it? Don't fellows realize that when a girl gives out her phone number she expects a call? Don't they un- derstand that a girl has feelings and that her feelings get hurt when the guy takes her num- ber and nothing happens? Please Ann, solve this mys- tery for me if you can. Man-Hater Dear Man Hater: When a boy asks a girl for her telephone number he actually INTENDS to call her. As we all know so well, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Somehow, he never quite gets around to making the call, but this does not mean that he was feeding her a line. Confidential to Third Ear: You also have a second mouth. Such information should not have been passed on as social chit-chat. You need a muzzle. F. Lautenschlager Weds Rita M.
