Party Collection # OW OO Oe SON THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursday, Februory 8, 1962 17 'Out Of Bounds VANCOUVER (CP)--The In- ternational Woodworkers of America (CLC) has been for- bidden by the big MacMillan, Bloedel and Powell River Lim- ited timber-pulp enterprise to collect money on company prop- erty for political purposes. Syd Thompson, president of the 6,000-member Greater Van- couver local of the union, said Wednesday he has ordered his local to defy the order. The company did not indicate what action would be taken if the ban was ignored. The lumber firm informed all its IWA workers that the ban applies to all parties seeking to collect money for political pur- poses. Mr. Thompson charged that the order is directed right at the heart of the New Demo- cratic-CCF party, formed last August by amalgamation of the CCF and the labor movement for political action. Mr. Thompson has ordered _ his shop stewards and plaat | chairmen to collect a voluntary dollar from each union worker to finance the local's annual 60- cent affiliation. Voluntary contributions are necessary because provincial legislation forbids the use of checked-off union dues--those checked off pay cheques by the company for the union--to be used for political purposes. Filed By Builders TORONTO (CP) -- Marvin 'Turk, a prominent house and apartment builder here, Wed- nesday filed bankruptcy papers for himself and four associated companies listing liabilities of more than $600,000 and no as- sets. "It is not the policy of Cana- dian business and industry gen- erally to allow any political party to hold meetings on their property. This applies to all parties, without exception."
