Cup Finals 'Naturals If Right Teams Win | In Semi-Final Games By M. McINTYRE HOOD | Special London, England, Correspondent to The Oshawa Times LONDON -- With the replays of drawn games now complet- ed, the stage has been set for) probably the greatest final) games of the century in both the English and Scottish Cup) competitions | The semi-final draw as it now stands makes it almost a 100-1 shot that Tottenham Hot- spur and Burnley will meet in the final for the English Cup at Wembley, and that for the first time in 34 years. Glasgow} Rangers will meet Celtic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park. And this set-up would provide two memorable soccer battles The English Cup quarter-final replays brought one surprise re- sult, Fulham, deep in the cel- lar of the first division of the English League and almost cer- tain candidates for relegation, crashed through to the semi- final by going to Blackburn and beating the Rovers by the only goal of the. game, scored by their centre forward Maurice Cook. But Fulham now meet Burnley, English league lead- ers, at Villa Park, and not even the most optimistic of the Ful- ham supporters can see a hope for their team snatching a win over Burnley. This should be an easy hurdle for the league leaders to surmount to reach the final. SPURS TOUGH GAME Tottenham Hotspur face a stiffer hurdle, however, on their way to the Wembley final. Man- chester United, at their sec- ond attempt, eliminated second division Preston North End 2-1, Charlton and Herd scoring the two goals, and. now meet Tot- tenham at Hillsborough, the Sheffield Wednesday ground. When last they met in Man- chester, the United beat Spurs) by 2-0, in a league game. So it cannot be taken for granted that Spurs will have an easy passage into the final. They will have to be at their best in order to overcome the chal- lenge of a much-improved Man- chester team. Yet they. are fa- vored because they have always had the knack of rising to a SPORTS CALENDAR TODAY'S GAMES HOCKEY | Civil Service League -- (Play- \offs) -- Police Assoc. ys Foote's |Towing, at Bowmanville Com- munity Arena, 8.00 p.m. 3rd and deciding game of series.
