ELEPHANT RACE IS NEWEST COLLEGE STUNT Two California college boys, Jack Hale (left) and Everett Moore, are shown wearing their version of a mahout cos- tume, appropriate for their plans to host what they be- lieve to be the world's first intercollegiate elephant race. They and a few friends at Orange County State College, Fullerton, California, started the Elephant Racing Club as a gimmick but now it's turn- ed fairly serious and a race is on for May 11. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn., has promised an entry and students at Har- vard have indicated interest. Hale will ride the Orange entry. --AP Wirephoto MAJOR LEAGUE LEADERS By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS American League AB R H Pet. Robinson, Chi. 76 10 32 .421 Jimenez, K. City 43 7 17 .395 Boyer, NY Lumpe, K.
