What's more, says John Stel fox of the vrovincial lands anc forests department, the game is under-harvested. The area had only recently become generally accessible and its attractions had not been advertised well enough ot bring them to the at- tention of many sportsmen. He says there is a greater variety of big game on Alber- ta's lower eastern Rockies slopes than anywhere else in North America. Those who had discovered the area had taken many animals in the world - record class but the biggest were still to come. More hunting would benefit the animals and those whose jobs depend on the number of people travelling into the region. same were ;the result of the yward less-harsh winters with elatively little snowfall. snow and cold hamper movements The foothills provide burned-| over acreage just coming up in grass and forage for elk, young ibrush cover for moose and jdeer, open coniferous forests jand sub - marginal farming for ibear, abundant lichens in over- |mature coniferous forests for jcaribou, mountain and rock for |sheep and goats. The area had yielded some beautiful specimens, including the largest mule deer ever shot in North America.
