The federal reserve board re- ported Thursday that reserves held steady at $16,43,000,000 at the close of business Wednesday night. That was the same figure reported for the week ended May 16. However, the stockpile is still the smallest it has been since Aug. 16, 1939, when gold re- serves totalled $16,33,000,000. The outflow of gold this year totals $45,000,000 -compared with the loss of $291,000,000 in the corresponding period of 1961. During the 1961 week corre- sponding to last week there was a gain of $48,000,000. There have been no weekly gains at all this year.
