THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesdey, September 5, 1962 3 Clinic Seeking 500 Donors Here - The summer: holidays have come to an end, but according to Red Cross officials the need for blood by our hospitals is still present. The summer. months are a busy time, as people move to tages and our highways crowded with cars. Ac- cidents do not take a' holiday and for this reason, whole blood and blood products are needed to save lives. . The Canadian Red Cross Blood Donor Service will be in Oshawa Thursday, Sept. 6, and will set up a clinic in'St. Greg- orys Auditorium, Simcoe street north. The Blood Donor Com- mittee, under the chairmanship of Mr. R. H. Stroud are hopeful that at least 500 persons will register for this September clinic. ' Blood and blood products are used in our hospitals to control hemorrhage, to combat shock, to prepare patients for surgery, to save infants born with heart or blood defects, to assist burn victims and help mothers in childbirth just to mention a few uses. Only 30 minutes is required to donate blood at a Red Cross Clinic and this includes the time needed for registration, tests, donation, rest and refreshments. Only three quarters of a pint, only one twentieth of the aver- age body content is taken, and this is replaced within 24 hours. Oshawa has always led the province in blood donations, and it is hoped that registration at this September Clinic will be a Volunteer Red Cross workers have been contacting many Osh- awa organizations to donate. blood, and all presidents of are requested to contact' eir members to attend this Red Cross Clinic. ; Any person between the ages of 18 and 65 years who are in average good health may donate blood, however, as a double. cheek, trained Red Cross nurses. will take a simple test to see if, the person can donate blood. Nothing is left to chance as the whole program is under the ex. pert supervision of trained Red: ' Cross workers. Clinic hours on Thursday will bé from 1.30 to 4,30 and 6 to 9 in the evening. There is plenty of free parking: at the clinic, and there will be no delays once you have regis tered with the Clinic. The actual donation itself takes only four to five minutes and no discomfort is experi- enced donating blood at a Red Cross Clinic. New and old donors are re- quested to register for this clinie on Thursday, as the need 'or blood is urgent. Boost your Ca- nadian Red Cross and your com- munity by being a Red Cross Blood Donor. AUTOS DAMAGED LINDSAY -- James Lucas, 25, of Downeyville and Eric Elliott of Simcoe St. N., Osh- awa, were drivers of cars damaged extensively in an accis dent' on Highway 36 near Ken- nedy's Bay curve Sunday.
